Out of curiosity I compared the CD layer of forementioned SACD with the 1993 RCA release



and believe both being at on par at least, probably the 1993 release sounding even a bit more "naturally"......thoughts, similar or different experiences from boardmembers ?

 

I only have the red book version, which I have not played since my first listen a number of years ago.

 

Now from this set: Debussy: Images; Le martyre de saint Sébastien (Symphonic fragments) - Pierre Monteux/London Symphony Orchestra - The Early Years - 5 CDs, Philips; disc 5

 

Now on the turntable, "Chopin Piano Concerto No. 1" performed by Emil Gilels accompanied by the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy on CBS Great Performances vinyl.

 

I discovered the Barber concerto at the ballet.

 

I was not aware of Gilels having recorded for CBS. I only have his recordings on DG and BC ...

 

Looks like this is the original album cover. Maybe it was a one time thing?

 

I find that the SACD has greater depth, warmth, and detail, especially through headphones. The Heifetz Sibelius Concerto SACD is reference quality, too.

a superb 1966 recording of Brahms String Quartet No. 2

 

I saw yesterday that the Partitas were available as a high rez download.

Edit - both are available as 96/24 downloads. Not sure about DSD.

 

Well, performance-wise, it is reference quality. However, I'm not too happy with the recording. Heifetz's violin should have been louder, which especially bothers me in some faster passages where you cannot clearly hear all the notes he plays. Btw, do you like the Ferras/Karajan Sibelius? That's one of my favorites.
