Every few weeks there's a artist/group that I fall in love with and listen to constantly. I read and watch anything that I can find based on that artists music career. At this very moment it's the Supremes. Such a great body of work that is overlooked due to the monstrous hits that overshadowed everything else they've done. I can't complain the hits are what introduced me to the group but the hits are also the least listened to on my Supremes playlist. So who's work at this time are you exclusively hooked/focused on? How long has it been?
That was some time ago. lol I was going through a Stevie Wonder phase just a few weeks ago too. What about you?
I just saw NIN and Soundgarden. I've seen both bands a few times...Soundgarden I think 12 times since back in 1989...and NIN I am guessing 4 times going back about to the same time period. For some reason and at the show I thought it was kind of funky and didn't work....Trent has his band running around and playing a lot of different instruments...it's interesting but seemed a little weird live...BUT it did work and for whatever reason it just kind of stuck with me and I kept thinking about this bushy haired kid in his band. after the show the next day I started really checking out a ton of live Youtube clips and became obsessed with Ilan Rubin his drummer/keyboardist/ guitarist/ bassist...the kid is INCREDIBLE./ he first got into the band when he was about 19 or 20...and has been in and out for about 6 years. he's also in Angels and Airwaves, Paramore, and probably more bands...pretty sure he was also in Trent's side band How To Destroy Angels. if you are a fan of John Bonham...check this kid out he is freaking SICK on drums and I am a singer/ bassist/ and guitarist...so it's not like a drummer telling you this....this guy is the real deal and also has his own band where he plays everything and sings. Ilan Rubin remember his name...he is LEGIT and I am sooooooooooooooo impressed with him.
Leonard Cohen for the last two days. I was listening to Recent Songs today. Wow. Also the first six Sabbath albums, also wow.
Muy last band was Led Zeppelin. The month before the rerelease, I played their albums all day for a week straight. Usually I will be playing 50's 60's Jazz though. Currently I have no particular artist i am hung up on. (I am obsessed with buying a new car, and am waiting on the one I ordered, so that is filling up my obsessions at the moment)
The last ten days or so it's been some Jackson Browne, but mostly Emmy's Wrecking Ball. I want that on vinyl so much. And Spyboy.
Long term.... Killing Joke. Liked them in the mid 80's, they lost me with a few mediocre albums and didn't get back into them until the 2003 self titled album, lost me again until the 2008 reunion and thankfully, between excellent studio and live albums, they've kept me happy with at least one release per year and several tours ever since. Short term for the past month, I've been getting back into T-Rex. Had one of the numerous singles/best of collections and Electric Warrior for literally decades but never went beyond that album until I picked up the 2 disc deluxe edition of Slider last month. Wow. Cadilac is a perfect tune and so fun to play on guitar. Recently picked up the remastered Born To Boogie 2 dvd set off eBay and have watched it half a dozen times since.
I've been going through the Satriani box set while reading his book the making of the albums. It's been fun. Listening to the albums in chronological order and reading the book has helped me get an understanding of how the music progressed. I'm listening to Crystal Planet right now.
