Now on the turntable…Angel stereo LP, Fernando Germani playing Liszt (Prelude and Fugue on the Name of BACH), Franck (Piece Heroique), Reger (Chorale Fantasy: "Halleluja, Gott zu loben"), and Widor (Toccata from Symphony No. 5).

I had the Toccatas on cassette many years ago. Still enjoy the Partitas on CD.

While the performance was not HIP, the recordings featured an all-star group of soloists ...

It has been my number one non-HIP performance for these works for decades and it stacks up quite well against many HIP recordings as well ...

I hear you! I do enjoy Meyer's Bach, but she is not exactly my first choice by any means. Her Rameau, Couperin and Scarlatti recordings are great!

There's some Couperin available on Spotify. Couldn't find any Rameau. Don't recall about Scarlatti.

From what can be seen in the picture, she seems to be wearing some elegant platform shoes suitable for the "subdued sloshing" necessary for the pianist to get to the instrument. I would love to hear the program, but unfortunately I have not a bit of it, except for the Ravel (Casadesus).

Did you see the concert John?

Speaking of the Grimaud recital, I remember Luciano Berio (and Cathy Berberian) being a hot topic back in my college days, but now almost nothing. I have nothing by him on my shelf...

I'm going a week from Sunday.

By the way, judged purely as a concert event, I'm paying $45 to see one of today's leading pianists - that's not bad.

The amount of lute music Weiss produced is astonishing.

I'm a huge fan of hers, but this strikes me as extremely gimmicky. Maybe it was better in person.

Is Dorian still in business? It has produced a number of excellent recordings over the years ...

I love the performances of Cto No. 2, 4 and 6. There are few recordings out there that can surpass these performances, HIP or not ...

It's an art installation. Music is part of it. Hardly uncommon. Live performance by a major artist is considerably rarer.

Now's a good time to buy used classical music CDs. I just purchased 20 Telarcs for $50 shipped! The shipping was way more than the discs themselves.

This should be an interesting conversation - which major artists whose live performance have we attended?

What a great conductor Monteux was. I'm really looking forward to the new big Monteux RCA box that's just come out here.
