    As I am a fan of Morton Feldman's music, I don't expect to have a problem . . .

A very good recording of the Shostakovich 4th in great sound, the early Rattle at his best.

    Wow, what a great program!!

I can see him having didfficulkties working with conductors. His spontaneous, imaginative approach to the instrument almost guarantees it.

As per the above, I started to respond but halted, because, even though I am not that active a concert-goer, after 40 years, my list would be so incomplete. I don't keep programs. And of course there is the completely subjective question as to who is a major talent.

Having said that - and off the top of my head:

Piano - Arrau, Cherkassky, Brendel, Schiff, Goode, Peter Serkin, Dichter, Watts, Argerich, Grimaud, Ax, Fleisher, de Laroccha (and Lang Lang)
Violin - Perlman, Salerno-Sonnenberg, Zuckerman, Mutter, Shaham, Koh, Tetzlaff
Cello - Starker, Ma, Weilerstein, Harrell
Voice (excluding opera) - Prey, Norman, Upshaw, Hunt, von Stade, Otter

Define "Major". My question is how many Major artists I've recorded, I'd say a lot. I'd say the 'most' major would be Ceclia Bartoli, mid 1990s. Peter Serkin with the Guarneri Quartet around the same time, Andrew Manze, Judith Nelson, Fretwork, Kent Nagano [directing the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra]. Lots of others, perhaps not as major, but still very talented.

I really can't stand Ramey and unfortunately, the WNO seems to love him.

She is not alone in not being able to "master" JS Bach keyboard works, I read that the WTC by Barenboim, a decent pianist, was also dreadful ...

    My list includes:

The English Concert with Trevor Pinnock
English Baroque Soloists/Monteverdi Choir with John Eliot Gardiner
Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra with Karl Munchinger
    ASMIF with Iona Brown
    Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra
I Solisti Veneti with Claudio Scimone
    Royal Danish Ballet
Philharmonia Virtuosi with Richard Kapp (now defunct since the passing of Kapp some ten years ago?)

    Anne-Sophie Mutter with Kurt Masur/NYPO
    Colin Davis with NYPO
    Kurt Masur with NYPO

The only solo performance I have attended:

Misha Dichter at the Caramoor Festival. Dichter made a good number of recordings with Philips back in the 70's.

Just like drh, I have not been a concert goer for over ten years. It is just not all that convenient to go into NYC.

I have these works on AVIE. I wonder if the same recordings were made twice?

A "Major" artist in my book is one whose recordings are often played in many classical FM stations and well-known among classical music enthusiasts ...

Beautiful music, playing, and sound. A few of the ornaments are a bit overdone, but he certainly plays with a lot of finesse.

Wow. Such intense playing and fantastic sound! Now, mind you, the perspective is as if you are on stage with them, or in the front row of a hall with a low stage. Yet, it's not bone dry--there is some hall sound. Fortunately, their musicianship can withstand such scrutiny. Overall, this might be my favorite set. I'll have to do more comparisons with my Parkanyi Quartet
and Mikrokosmos Quartet on SACD, but for the price, it is easily recommended.

My favorite set of the Bartok Quartets too! Until hearing these guys, I had a lot of trouble enjoying this music.
