What was the name of the song in which Barry Manilow plagiarized Chopin Preludes, Op. 28 No. 20? Was it "Mandy" or something like that? Pardon my ignorance, as I have not followed any non-classical music for well over twenty years ...

Right! Now I remember. One of my younger sisters was an alum of Manilow; they both attended High School of Music & Arts in NYC (she is obviously a bit younger) and she was the one who pointed out the Chopin Preludes 28 as the starting movement of "Could It Be Magic" ...

I need to give my Chopin collection a bit more spinning time. With almost 200 recordings between CD's and LP's, they are much under-appreciated ...

Telemann's Tafelmusik by Schola Cantorum Basiliensis & Wenzinger. Unfortunately, somewhat "passé" today. It sure seems to be some cloth/textile, but I remember wondering once why it feels different.

Just to set the record straight Manilow has always given Chopin credit for the music. For a while after "Could It Be Magic" was a hit Manilow would play the Prelude as is in his concerts before singing his lyrics over it. So Manilow did not plagiarize by any definition of the word.

I respect Manilow giving credit, but is it piracy when a particular piece of music is in the public domain?

GF Handel was smarter and in fact was studying to be a lawyer before he pursued a composer career. He only re-used his own scores ...

Remember the lawsuit between Lotus 1-2-3 and Quadro Pro? Even the same keystrokes could get a software company in trouble. Back in the days, lesser-known composers tended to copy the style of the famous composers ... :D

A beautiful set! I only wish they had omitted the Beethoven Concerto 3 with Zubin Mehta, the only non-solo recording.

I've got the original Denon CD from way back in the day. These are remarkably poised performances for a seventeen year-old.

About to play the Sixth Quartet, a piece I've never quite come to terms with-- perhaps a step back from the brilliance and energy of the Fifth. The Minguet take a little getting used to as well, with broader tempi than the Arditti, for example, choose in their excellent recordings of Rihm's chamber music.
