Rats. I just ordered the Bach set this week from Amazon. it. I tried to cancel the order, but it's too late to cancel. Thank you for clarifying. Maybe I'll end up with both boxes....

Unfortunately, with the constant repackaging, duplicates are inevitable since it is almost impossible to tell the differences between the boxes released a few years apart ...

It is pretty clear that Tafelmusik is no match for the English Concert after this first and perhaps the only listen. But don't get me wrong, there are some real gems in this box.

    Thanks
Surely they will take it back, as long as you don't open it.

While this box is non-HIP, but with soloists like Arleen Auger and Julia Hamari, the singing is just outstanding ...

I was about to sell this on Amazon, then I decided to give it another chance. While it's not a favorite, and is more overtly modern in style than I prefer, it does have some very powerful and striking aspects, so I decided to keep it.

Without question, the upcoming Glenn Gould box will overlap with the smaller Glenn Gould Bach box. However, I do not expect that it will have the DVDs that are in the Bach box (unless they make a last minute expansion of the new box). It will likely be a new mastering of the contents of the Bach box. The new book alone gives something special, as it appears to be much larger than the mini-book in the old box.

Given the record label, the performance was probably done on a fortepiano and not a modern piano. Is that right?

    Correct....
    • Matthaus Andreas Stein, c.1802
    • Heilmann of Offenbach, c. 1800
These sound sturdier than the ones in the first box. :)

To the best of my knowledge, this may be the only Beethoven Piano Sonatas performed on a fortepiano and recorded in SACD. I have a Mozart and a Hadyn Piano box by Ronald Brautigam on BIS ...

I'll bet they sound great. The Binns' seem to have been forgotten.
