Why I decided years ago, to just buy them all. Now I may do an occasional Blu ray upgrade, depending on reviews, but most of the catalog is still DVD.

Could have been even better if a decent actress might have been cast in the Sondra Locke parts....who would have thought he would have had the chops he has shown as a director late in life!

Yes and I like a lot of those movies, but he's really upped his game in the last two decades.

I have almost all of those movies on DVD...plus some later ones. He was one of my favorite directors but from Mystic River on, I didn't care for much of his work and now I don't even bother with his stuff.

I also like a bunch of those films, but the run after 1988 was much better.

I've always enjoyed his work - and there's an awful lot of great films after 1988 too. A few I don't care for amongst that bunch, though:

    The Dead Pool (1988)
    Heartbreak Ridge (1986)
    City Heat (1984)
    Sudden Impact (1983)
    Firefox (1982)
Any Which Way You Can (1980)
Every Which Way But Loose (1978)
    The Gauntlet (1977)
    The Enforcer (1976)
    The Eiger Sanction (1975)
    Breezy (1973)
    Joe Kidd (1972)
    The Witches (1966)

For me, The Gauntlet ushers in a run of indifferent or poor films with a few gems.

The only Clint films from Fistful onwards I've not seen are 'White Hunter Black Heart', 'Bird' and 'Jersey Boys'. I have every movie on DVD or BD from 'Fistful' to 'Trouble With The Curve'.
Not nearly my favourite 'actor', but certainly my favourite film star.

Always liked The Beguiled. American Sniper, on the other hand, horrendous.

  18. No love for Joe Kidd? I love that movie. I never watched Breezy or The Witches, but I agree most of the other movies on your list are the weaker ones for me too.

I remember TBS used to always run an Eastwood marathon on Thanksgiving or somethimg. I fell in live with all those films and eventually bought every title in the Clint Eastwood Collection dvds from Warner. Looks real classy on he shelf.

What amazes me is the attitude of some on the Blu-ray.com forum. Just because they release a Blu ray, you're expected to "upgrade" immediately. Trouble is, nobody's restoring his old films, so they keep getting ranked at 2.5-3.0 out of 5.
I see no point in spending my monthly pension on something that likely won't look, or sound much better than the DVD.
Escape From Alcatraz was non-anamorphic, so that's a no-brainer, but the 3 that are upcoming have no obvious improvements, so my DVDs will be just fine.

I recently picked up "The Dead Pool" at Big Lots. I kind of forgot which one it was and had it confused with "Sudden Impact". After I realized it was the "one with Guns + Roses" I kind of regretted buying it, as I vaguely remembered it wasn't that great. But what the hell, it's Clint, how bad can it be? Right?

I probably hadn't seen it in over 25 years and had no recollection of the movie other than the basic premise and the G +R tie in. Just finished watching it and all I can say is "WOW! What a cheese fest". I was embarrassed for Clint. Bad acting, corny dialog, ham fisted social commentary, cheesy background music, it's got it all. Oh yeah, it looked kind of cheap too. According to Wikipedia Siskel + Ebert liked it. That really surprises me. Maybe it seemed better at the time.
