Did Michael Scott achieve celebrity status after "the documentary" finally aired? David Brent did achieve a level of notoriety after "the documentary" aired in the UK.

I tried to find the slogan or jingle for (pseudo-lebrity) Happy Kyne's Bun 'N Run to post here as an honorable mention, but no luck.

If Tony Soprano and Don Draper don't qualify as "fictional celebrities" I don't know who would. Both were elevated to pop culture icons at a certain point in their 6+ season shows, with Tony regularly appearing on the news snippets depicted in Sopranos and Don being covered in Mad Men WSJ and other press, as well as winning advertising awards.

Rock Star Jet Screamer - Performing Judy Jetson's "Eep Opp Ork Ah-Ah" (not really a catch phrase, nor is it that catchy) from the hanna Barbera animated television show The Jetsons

I considered this one. If it qualifies, add "Do the twitch" by Rock Roll from "The Flintstones".

To my way of thinking, a "fictional celebrity" is a fictional character who is famous within the fictional universe that he/she inhabits. The character's fame within the real world would not be relevant to his/her fame within his/her fictional world. So Don Draper might be famous within advertising circles, but would hardly qualify as a household name in the alternate universe that "Mad Men" inhabits. Tony Soprano, at minimum, achieved the notoriety of a reputed mob boss, although phrases he used in his every day life (that we get to see as viewers) probably wouldn't quality as famous catch phrases, unless they were transmitted in the (fictional) media.

Other interpretations of what makes a "fictional celebrity" are of course welcome. Scholarship on the topic is open for future avenues of research. :)

I used to dig Hi Fye until I heard a rumor that he was a square ... you know, four corners.

I have no knowledge of this show or this phrase, but the next time I'm in a restaurant I might take it out for a trial spin.

Yeah, I see where you're going with that but it's so restrictive that you could probably count on one or two hands the total number of fictional celebrities who have catch phrases by that definition, and make a poll of it. Or a scholarly paper in a peer-reviewed journal. :)

It's not a catchphrase, but one of my favourite examples of a fictional character achieving fame was when Arrested Development's Tobias Funke mysteriously became a hit via his book, "The Man Inside Me."

I certainly will never be able to hear the phrase "Never nude" without thinking of Tobias.
