saw them in London last year when they played all of the Nothing's Shocking album - it was all excellent - then they spoiled it a bit with suspension artists - it's disappointing that they don't seem able to make any more albums - Strays had some good songs but The Great Escape Artist didn't really sound like them.

Loves some JA. Saw them several times back in the day, always amazing. Sigh, I know what people will say, but I have to admit my favorite album is Strays. To come back after 13 years and put out a record like that. I wore out a vinyl copy which it first came out in 2003. Don't get me wrong, I think Shocking and Ritual are both A+ and saw them live during that period, but Strays just completly blows me away.

The stuff after Jane's Addiction is pretty hit or miss. Perry's Rev pissed me off when I bought it because it seemed so unnecessary. Conversely, the stuff he did with Stephen on Porno for Pyros is excellent; especially the first album. I really enjoyed that one. Moving onto to Dave Navarro, I enjoyed his solo album Trust No One a lot and have played it quite a bit over the years. I also really enjoy the Deconstruction album he and Eric Avery did together with drummer, Michael Murphy. Very good album, but Avery's vocals kind of have that Peter Murphy monotone vibe to them, so if you can get used to that, there's some really fine songs on the album.

Moving from those, we have Dave's The Panic Channel album which was completely forgettable. Ugh. What else? Oh, yeah! Eric Avery's Help Wanted (2008) is really, really good, but I didn't like his second solo release LIFE.TIME (2013) very much. His Polarbear album is really good and surprisingly heavy. I wasn't crazy about the The Satellite Party but it wasn't terrible, either. A few good tunes on that. I'm sure I missed something (or did on purpose like Red Hot Chili Pepper's One Hot Minute which I actually like quite a bit, but it doesn't fall into real solo stuff). Eh, I guess it counts. That's one of my favorite RHCP albums because of Navarro's input. It's just a different sounding album and I like it.

About 2 years ago it was released by Audio Fidelity as a limited, numbered Gold HDCD. It's a very slight improvement over the original issue CD and isn't brickwalled. It's also just recently been released on HD Tracks as a 192/24 or 96/24 download. I have yet to hear that version so I can't comment on whether it's a significant upgrade or not over previous versions.

I would bet good money that Ritual will also get a HD download release before the end of the year to capitalize on the upcoming shows performing Ritual in it's entirety.

I enjoyed RHCP w Navarro. Wish it had lasted a couple more albums.

"Rev" was more of a contract-fulfilling "Best Of" release that collected a few of the biggest Janes and Pornos singles along with a bunch of non-album B-Sides, remixes, rarities and a few new solo Perry tunes. You didn't mention it but Perry's first true solo album "Song Yet To Be Sung" in 2001 is imo, the best thing he's done since Porno For Pyros although it too is somewhat uneven.

Has anyone seen the reality show with Perry Ferrell? What's it called?

I have some personal Jane's Addiction trivia. When my mom was in her 70s she appeared in the "Been Caught Stealing" music video. She is seen throughout but she is most remembered for the cartwheels she did down the aisle. She got an audition for it through an agent. Perry immediately wanted her to be in it. It was filmed in a market in Venice, CA. She thought they were "nice boys" and invited them to Thanksgiving dinner. They didn't come.

That's not just trivia. That's epic! Well its cool that she thought they were "nice boys". It seems they were being polite. Does she have any clue on the debauchery and the copious amount of drugs they ingested? That's such a great song and video.

It's 99.9% identical to the original CD release which as never gone out of print, and therefore pointless. No mastering differences at all from what I remember. An improvement over the original? It still sounds a bit limp, and still needs to be mastered louder.

It isn't re-mastered - it's just a new transfer of what is probably a digital source, hence the 21khz cut off. If you don't think those early JA albums sound limp due to the ****ty late 80's production style and crap mastering, great.

  25. I think that's somewhat the case with NS (didn't like that sound), but Dave Jerden did great work on Ritual (and Alice In Chains' Dirt). Those two sound almost perfect to my ears.

And as for the "it should be louder" comment . . . you'll find massive disagreement from many here.
