Artists with long careers and large catalogs (Rolling Stones, Neil Young, Paul McCartney) generally face a challenge with latter day releases matching the quality of their classic albums.

For Neil, what was the last album of his that you really cared about? I will admit that "Storytone" left me cold, as well as "A Letter Home" and the majority of his more recent albums. In fact, I might say that although "Psychedelic Pill" was an exception for me, Neil Young hasn't really made an album I like since "Ragged Glory" and "Harvest Moon".

Greendale I guess, Prairie Wind and Chrome Dreams 2 were ok.

It's hard to top the first five, and, admittedly, I haven't kept up with his prolific repertoire, but I really like, and often listen to, "Old Ways" (1985).

Same here. I find something (and usually quite a bit) of value in all of Neil's releases -- even the ones that get slagged the most here.

The last Neil record I really cared about was Harvest Moon, but I saw him this summer and the show fantastic! His band was excellent & did a great setlist of classic stuff. He started solo acoustic, then did full band country and finished with an onslaught of rock. The band was very versatile and could do authentic country and full-on Crazy Horse. The sound was great his voice and guitar were top notch.Totally clear and dead center in the mix. As for the new material, the Monsanto stuff was when he really let loose and rocked hardest and although the lyrics lack his best craft being a bit to direct repeating corporate names ad nauseam and basically being a straight out, blunt bitchfest, He and the band tore into them and lit it up like they were kids with a boombox at a keg party standing around a bonfire. A great show!

Think "The Monsanto Years" is incredibly underrated, especially 'round these parts (unsurprisingly).

Monsanto Years is good, especially the music. Could care less about Storytone.

Last one that really excited me was PP, but I'd put Monsanto Years in the same category with Fork in the Road and Greendale-- Flawed but real interesting and I'm glad he did it.

Not keen on the two in between.

Prairie Wind was really good. I like Psychodelic Pill but I thought it was a bit over hyped but I'm still happy to have it. It may be my last Neil LP though, especially at the price he tends to ask anymore.

''Comes A Time'' was his last great one in my opinion, that's a long time ago.

Comes a Time was a really good album and the last one I cared about. I enjoyed his performance on Austin City Limits in the early 80's as well that was straight out of the Comes a Time sound.

Great album. Was there a hi-res or surround version of this released?
