    As I recall how this was calculated for end-of-the-year charts, if a song remained at #1 for more than one week, it received extra points for each week it was there. I think the same formula was applied to compiling this list. Gibb, Debby Boone, The Knack and many others had that ONE biggie that caught fire for a couple of months, and landed them on this chart.

    By my count, I like about 1/4th of the list. I can probably find about 10-15 songs I think are okay. The rest either are blech to me - or I don't know them at all!

    You must not have been alive in the mid 70's. Andy Gibb had 3 #1 hits. This added to the accomplishments of the Gibb family to be a hit machine at that time. The Bee Gees have 3 on that list,
    the three #1s from Sat Nite Fever.

    I wasn't even born. I'm a Bee Gees fan though and have only ever really heard of Andy as a footnote in their story. I don't think I've heard any of his music, maybe just some Bee Gees covers.

    I don't know what that is, but it sounds like my leisure-time activity. ;)

    I own almost a quarter of the list (about 22).

    I counted only the ones I was SURE I had, and got 20. There were another five or so that I thought about for a moment and couldn't say for sure that I have, either on 45 or on a soundtrack album, something like that. In the mid-80's, I found a source of 45 at a business that serviced jukeboxes and the singles were being sold for .50 each. I bought over 200 over the course of a few weeks of going through them. What was even cooler is that the lady that was behind the desk didn't see any use for the "shucks," and I got all I wanted of those for free.

    "Shucks"="picture sleeves."

    I was in high school during that time period, and you could not swing a dead cat without hearing an Andy Gibb song playing on Top 40 radio, and despite how people now feel about his songs now, he was very popular back then.

    I viewed this list trying to spot elements of commonality, and the biggest takeaway is how ephemeral the taste of the American public is. So many of these songs capture a specific moment in time, and as such have dated horribly. The Macarena and Whoomp There It Is! are as indelibly ingrained in my psyche as Shadow Dancing or Tie a Yellow Ribbon must be to someone twenty years older than me, or Call Me Maybe and Party Rock Anthem are to someone twenty years my junior. These are the songs we're all trying to forget, but they're inescapable.

    Not that this list is entirely garbage, it's just... strange. It reflects a world where Flo-Rida is the greatest rapper of all time, where The Archies are more important than Prince, where Santana's greatest accomplishment was a one-off single with Rob Thomas and where Mario, Timmy T, Next and Los Del Rio will live forever in infamy.
