I don´t think so, that is a common view from those that make different drive system, like Brinkmann, VPI, etc

You mean the ones asking why it looks like a silver clone of the Pioneer? :)

The press release is glorious Engrish at its worst! I predict that this turntable, like previous generation 1200s, will be a fine piece for DJs as well as audiophiles.

The question is naturally the price, can I predict not under $5K. What is very interesting to me is that it would seem to be improved at exactly the right places. a better more rigid platter, a more rigid plinth, a better arm, better gimbals, better bearing and a more rigid and better motor.

I wonder if sales of $500-$2000 turntables will dip between now and release of the non-special edition as buyers wait for reviews.

I think my plan to get a Oppo 105 will have to wait.

It doesn't say anything about tonearm and overall damping or removable RCA plugs. I have the Pioneer Plx-1000 and my only complaint is that the dust cover isn't hinged to the back.

Whatever the case, I'm freaking EXCITED!:shtiphat:

Oh I think it'll be much less than that at least the regular edition.

Really? How much was the most expensive SL-1200 when it ended production? Even adding 50% from that price, wouldn't it be under $5K?

"The tonearm employs lightweight magnesium which has a high damping effect, with cold drawing improving the characteristics of the material and achieving the high-precision required. In addition, high initial-motion sensitivity is attained by employing the traditional Technics gimbal suspension construction with horizontal rotation axis and the vertical rotation axis intersecting at a single central point, as well as high-precision bearings using a cut-processed housing."

"The use of brass-milled and gold-plated phono terminals and ground terminals prevents degradation in sound quality while enabling the easy attaching and detaching of cables. Also theuse of metal shielding construction inside the case reduces the effects of external noise."

Just spend $500 or less on a second hand 1200 or 1210.

    Hmmm...

Also, the twin-rotor construction reduces the bearing load while maintaining high torque, and also reduces minute vibration during rotation. These factors enable reproduction of the warm, exquisitely detailed sound etched on analogue records.

Etched vinyl isn't what I consider reference quality. :unhunh:
    ;)

Surprised that they gave it the option to do +/- 16% pitch adjustment, seeing that the Technics website says it was designed 'for Hi-Fi use'...

EDIT: I'm specifically talking about the fact that it's 16 instead of 8.

Without the slider it's not an SL 1200! Is anyone else seeing how closely this resembles a regular SL 1200? I'm really wondering if the tooling for the SL 1200 wasn't long gone as many people have said. Except for the fact that the VTA ring now seems to be made of metal that arm looks exactly the same. Well I guess if you have the blueprints all drawn up it's not as big of a task to create new machinery.

I want to be the first person to officially bitch about something I don't like: I don't like the rounded edges on the stop start button I liked it more Square. There I did it! Within two hours of being shown I already am demanding a change!
