Many fans ignored that there was a poster inside the cover of "Abraxas" (Santana), in 1970, right?

I have just picked up two copies of Abraxas, in addition to a copy I have had for years. All are Canadian pressings. I bought a so so condition original Canadian pressing that contained a mint poster, which my first copy, an 1985 repress did not have. Yesterday I picked up a Canadian reissue that was mint except all the glue has dried up and the covers have separated. This two had a mint poster inside. All three copies are gatefolds, with the two with posters having double slots. Looks like the posters were never even unfolded.

My Stepdad found a really nice original copy with the poster and gave it to me for my b-day last year.

I had this album back in the day (my favorite phrase lately) but don't remember any poster. Of course there are a lot of things I don't remember from back then.

I'd say it's borderline miraculous to find ANY classic rock era, used 70s LPs that still have intact posters! If the price is right, snap 'em up!

I bought my copy about 10 years ago, and it has the poster in the 2nd pocket.

Just in case you didn't know, there's a poster inside the white album, too. :)

The LP I seem to have difficulty finding the poster is 'Dark Side' and Sabbath's 'Master of Reality'.

True - my buddy owns the ONLY worn, used copy I've seen of DSOTM with the poster.

I don't think it was issued with a poster in Australia - we would usually miss out on extras like posters, lyric sheets, printed inner sleeves, even gatefold sleeves would not be produced. As a teenager, my cousin had this and I didn't notice a poster. I do know that he spent a lot of time - probably too much time - looking at the lady on the front cover. Probably why he bought it in the first place (and Hendrix's Electric Ladyland with the gatefold UK sleeve). It may also explain why so many missed the Santana poster.

If only they had figured a way to include posters without folding them.....never could stand the creases.

There's two posters in DSOTM. The band poster, and the green-tinted pyramids poster.

They did. They're 11" by 11" and tend to have lyrics on them.

I bought my (USA) copy within a couple of months of its release, and it had no poster that I can remember. I still have the LP and it's not there now. It's not a double-pocket sleeve.

This goes along my theory that because of the separate cover pocket, lots of fans did not realize there was this goodie included.

So much for memory. I just checked my Abraxas LP, and it is a double-pocket sleeve. No poster, though. I don't remember one, but it's quite possible that I just forgot about it. I'm sure I never hung it.

  19. I have an early/first embossed promo US copy (1D/1F) with the double pocket sleeve; the poster is intact and likely was never removed. These early copies have such energy in the grooves, something I just don't hear in later domestic re-issues.

No separate pocket-- As I recall the poster was in the same pocket with the LP.

The only separate pocket I can recall was Chicago V, which had two really bulky posters.

  21. I've never seen a hype sticker promoting the poster. But I have seen the censorship by Columbia. What I'd really like to know is why and when Columbia started (then stopped) attempting to censor the album cover-specifically the naked woman-with the Time Magazine printed review. The really weird thing is they seemed to have done it at the factory, on the actual album cover, before the records were even shrink wrapped!!

Here's my theory, please refute/elaborate as you see fit. It seemed like the KC30130 first issues were printed, shipped, then the label must have taken heat from dealers or the bible belt/moral majority, etc, claiming it was pornography, obscenity, etc then they censored the naked woman by strategically placing the Time Magazine review on the artwork, over the naked woman..again, not even on the shrink.

Then calmer heads must have prevailed and they stopped censoring and covering up the woman, claiming that it was in fact art, a painting, etc.

A couple of days ago I picked up a near mint (cover and LP) copy of Firesign Theater - Don't Crush That Dwarf,
Hand Me the Pliers and it had an unused poster inside. Two dollars!

Yeah, I kept all those posters in the LP sleeves as I did not have room for them on my wall due to all the Playboy centerfolds. Somehow fuzzy hair is not quite as attractive when it's on Hendrix's, Dylan's or Garfunkel's heads.
