  3. Like I said, I couldn't finish it - I guess I should say I haven't finished it. It's still on my DVR.

My Wife and I loved the first one from just about the first segment of the first episode, simply because of the Acting. It took another segment to get used to the style (flashbacks, interview/interrogation - what the heck is going on? disorientation), but then we were hooked.

We were eagerly awaiting season 2 and tuned in. Well before the end of the episode (we love DVR - pause, rewind, bathroom breaks, popcorn, etc - but mostly, if we see something stoopid, we talk about it), we were getting doubtful. We said we would keep watching, but not with any sense of anticipation. It just kept getting worse. Finally got to the big "Shootout" episode (I won't go into any details) and gave up. Dumb. Stoooooooopid. Unbelievable. Did I mention Stoooooopid?

Never have gone back and finished it.

    Bad.

Brutal, sexy and badass - and I've only seen the first two seasons!
Spiral is also good, if slightly less amoral.

I am interested in Braquo too. It looks like it is available on Hulu (by subscription only) and can purchase streaming on Amazon (that can get kind of pricey). How are you accessing it?

Spiral's still being made; as far as I know, two more seasons are planned

Orange Is The New Black isn't quite in that league.
If the OP liked Deadwood and The Shield, be sure to
catch up with Justified. Great writing and acting,
although they make it seem that 'Pappy Van Winkle 15'
Kentucky Bourbon is easy to come by (this is not so).

Yeah, I liked Justified a lot.

Can't remember if they were already mentioned in this thread or not, but Fargo is a great story-arc type show (each season is its own standalone storyline, with the second season actually being a prequel touching on something that gets mentioned in the first season). I loved both seasons - very dark/black humor, many memorable characters, a lot of mayhem & bloodshed to say the least, but some awesome quirkiness.

Another show I would recommend if you like mind-effs is Mr. Robot. At first I thought it was going to be just a stupid computer hacker assinine drama but it really turns things on their head so to speak as it moves along. Glad I stuck with it. Can't wait for the next season.

I am 7 episodes into the first season of The Wire.

Lots to like about this show but it is very difficult to follow. Even reading recaps, the names of the characters, for the most part, don't stick in the memory.

Pre-harvest burning of sugar cane fields in Louisiana:

Sugar cane field burning is carried out before harvesting the cane to make the process easier and require less manual labor. It takes place during the harvest season, lasting from May to November (dry season) in the South and East, (Cannavam Rípoli, 2000) with the peak of the burning season being in August. ((1)Lara, 2005) In the burning process, the field is set fire to and the leaves are burned off of the stalks. About 80% of the “trash,” including straw, the tops, and green and dry leaves, are burned off. These components constitute about 25% of the entire sugar cane stalk. The burning kills microorganisms and burns the trash, both of which keep the soil rich when left in the fields. In place of burning the cane, the leaves could be removed and burned to create steam for electricity generation or be converted into fuel themselves. (Cannavam Rípoli, 2000)

This might be a reference to episode eight, where Rust Cole (Matthew McConaughey) is seriously injured during his fight with the “man with the scars” and later being rescued by Marty Hart (Woody Harrelson).
