The only two options would be that it was sourced from a different tape or it was dumped into a digital audio workstation and repaired. Steve's approach is to stick with the tape and not go down a generation either analog or digital. The end result trumps any minor annoyance with tape source flaws, IMHO.

First post after 10 years of lurking. Just bought this SACD and cannot stop playing it. Sounds great! Thanks for all the lessons I've learned over the past few years.

I know I am really late to the game but....WOW!!!!!

Very sweet. Very forward & in the room - but never harsh. Quite happy with this disc.

Me too. I always enjoyed reading about the mastering (joys and/or troubles) and of course to read about the Burgers and Pizza's involved in the process.......

It's the well-written songs and beautifully executed harmonies of Amerca's music that pleases me so. Everyone hears music in their own way, but nothing in their music reminds me of Neil Young, and I'm glad it doesn't! To me, Neil's voice is weak, whiny, and exceedingly difficult to tolerate IMO.

Is there a CD layer included in this release?

At one point (in 1972) my favorite album. Tremendous acoustic guitar work.

Well said. I love the "steely" guitar sound on this album. And their guitar mixing decisions created a hypnotic/almost psychedelic effect at certain times. On certain songs.

Those steely guitars are part of the charm of this album. While I think George Martin's remixes on the early tracks from "History" are interesting I always go back to the original mixes.

The versions of this album on streaming/YouTube use the Martin remix of "I Need You" instead of the original mix (with a fadeup on the first line to hide the crossfade from "Horse" as it was released on History). It's a good mix, but still an unfortunate choice.

The remixes on History from the first album are either edited or faded early, plus you have the cross-fades. To get the whole song you need the original S/T album.

    Thank you!

Stupid question: is there a repository of all the threads on Adventurers in Mastering and the likes?

Every now and then, one will get bumped/revived and that means I'll have the opportunity to read up and learn something new, whether I like the artist or not (and maybe get to know artists I know little about), but it's all quite random.

I'm not criticising - random is good - just asking in case there is a repository and I never knew/checked.

I have no idea. Some are in the bookmarked "Spotlight" section but not all.

Thanks for the bump. I missed this first time around and always wondered why your America SACD sounded so different than other America CDs. Now I know.

On my 1972 Aussie Vinyl pressing the intro to A HORSE WITH NO NAME starts off very quiet... I notice this because it's the only track on my pristine LP that has a big 'click'...
The SQ of this LP is excellent... especially the intro to THREE ROSES.
