A recent movie, Experimenter, is kind of creepy in its subject matter. It focuses on Stanley Milgram, a social psychologist who is famous for his "response to authority" experiments.
Okay guys, I finally saw A Serbian Film... the DVD cover said "Unrated", but I'm pretty certain that the version I saw was slightly edited. (It was 102 minutes, but according to most online sources, the uncut version should be about 103 or 104 minutes). So I've got a couple questions: 1) I'm assuming that most of the cuts in the version I saw were during the infamous "newborn" scene and the "hooded incest" scene, because the nasty stuff in these scenes was just implied rather than shown.... does the fully uncut version actually *show* that stuff? (yuck!) 2) A few people here have mentioned that the uncut version is available on YouTube.... but how is that possible? Doesn't YT have restrictions on sexual content? I would think that any postings of the uncut film would've been removed ages ago.
In a more subtle way (so it's more 'unsettling'); "Er ist wieder da". It's about the re-introduction of (literally) Adolf Hitler in the modern German society. Some scenes are funny and the story itself is a bit patchy. But the unsettling thing is the way mr. Hitler makes a very easy connection with people in the (improvised) street-scenes. He can get away with very xenophobic and radical remarked and even finds quite a few sympathizers. I see at as a portrait of the atmosphere in many European countries at the moment.
that scene was one of the most disturbing scene I've seen in quite some time...I remember it being extremely graphic..my wife was really disgusted and left the room...
My wife had a horrible experience as a child with a dentist. He drilled her cheek then slapped her when she was freaked, bleeding and in pain. Then her sister and Mom and Dad wouldn't believe her and punished her because the bastard told them SHE was acting out. She shook for a week after we left the theater maybe 45 minutes into the film. Thats how I found out the story. I would kill the************ even now.
Yes, the main cuts are where you think they are. I know it's only a couple of minutes but the missing footage really ramps up the 'disturbing' aspect of the movie. The uncut DVD clearly says ''UNCUT' on the cover. The Unrated version(s) are edited. The only uncut version on Blu-ray is a Swedish release that includes the Blu-ray, the DVD and the soundtrack CD.
The Hat in the Cat with Mike Myers. I can stomach any exploitation movie, but I might need therapy after that one...
Lately I've been revisiting the Saw series, and I had forgotten how tame and relatively bloodless the first two films are. A lot of people tend to generalize the entire series as being one big bloodbath of torture porn and gore, but in fact the first two entries are surprisingly restrained. It's really only from Part 3 onwards where they start ramping up the gore and trying to outdo themselves with the amount of entrails and viscera shown on-screen.
A friend and I watched all seven Saw movies back-to-back one day. There is a surprising amount of continuity to them and they DO comprise a self-contained story. We both came away with a greater appreciation for the series. If you just watched them one per year as they came out, you may not catch a lot of the cross-references. I'm not saying that they are on a par with Lord of the Rings or The Godfather but I don't understand a lot of the hate this franchise gets. If you're planning to watch a movie called 'Saw', you should be prepared for what you're getting into.
I don't know which "saw" it was.... but, I DO remember one where they took on 'health insurance'! Maybe.... "SAW VII"?....or VIII? The guy who was in charge of making sure the health insurance company NEVER pays sick people gets his!! I thought it was nice to see a horror franchise get a little 'topical & political'!
I went into that movie expecting a serious, unsettling drama, but it came off almost like more of a dark comedy... pretty silly, in fact... not the least bit disturbing.
I wouldn't call that one "disturbing"... more along the lines of "incredibly bizarre" and "inexplicable". Definitely a mindf**k movie.... I'll have to listen to the director's commentary on the DVD sometime and see if it clears up any of the film's mysteries.
