The British Daily Mail is reporting that veteran actor Daniel Craig has departed the long-running James Bond film franchise, despite having been offered a whopping $100 million to do the last two films. It had previously been reported they were going to shoot the two films back to back to make the schedule a bit easier, but Craig has apparently said that recent knee problems and exhaustion incurred on the last film, SPECTRE, led him to bail on doing any further installments.

The story is at this link:

I'm done as 007, Daniel Craig tells Bond movie bosses »

A lot of different actors' names are being tossed around as possible replacements, including Tom Hiddleston.

Tom Hiddleston would be the prefect choice. He did a pretty convincing Bond-type character in The Night Manager.

$100 Million? Heck, I'll do it for half that. Who do I need to see for my tuxedo fitting...?

For $100 million I think I could fight through knee problems and exhaustion. For that kind of money I could just buy a motorized chair to get my lazy butt around.

As much as I like OHMSS, in the end there's just too many flaws to rank it anywhere near the top ten Bond films, imo.

Good news. Craig's certainly a fine actor but doesn't feel right to me as Bond. I grew tired of him easily.

I think he was OK, but I've always said you need five things for an actor to be James Bond:

    1) a guy with charm and sex appeal
    2) a guy with a good enough sense of humor that he can drop witty, sarcastic comments every so often
    3) a guy who looks classy in a tux
    4) a guy who is intelligent enough to stay one step ahead of the bad guy
    5) and a guy you could absolutely believe could kill people in cold blood without hesitation.

For me, Sean Connery was a rare actor who worked on all levels, plus he had great acting ability. I think Pierce Brosnan was next, maybe not quite as intense as Connery but very good. I know many fans liked Roger Moore, but I always felt he couldn't be taken seriously and was playing the films as a comedy too often (though he redeemed himself in a couple of scenes in For Your Eyes Only), and Timothy Dalton was humorless and kind of bland to me; I could buy Dalton as murderous, but he missed out in the charm and humor departments. George Lazenby had moments, but I think he was just kind of out of his depth. For me, Craig was kind of a much-improved version of Dalton: too serious, too grim, not enough humor, and I didn't always buy the classy-tuxedo thing.

The next guy in the role is gonna have a hard time filling those shoes.

Good post, but I have to disagree; Brosnan and Moore were too cartoon for me, too much wit and sarcasm, not enough tough.
I actually liked Dalton, he was the closest thing to books since Connery, so I agree that Craig was an improved version, but I place him just below Connery, because to me, the humour is the least important part of character.

I'm sad he won't be doing more... I just noted Spectre has dropped in price, low enough for me to complete my Craig set... so I guess I'll be saying goodbye to him when I pick it up and watch it.

Spectre has to be one of the worst Bond movies.
