Due to the way contracts were made back then, Sinatra was to be offered first dibs on any and all projects derived from The Detective and, indirectly, this meant Die Hard. So before they could ask Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwartzenegger or Bruce Willis, they had to formally ask Frank Sinatra if, at 73 years of age, he'd like to be cast as an action hero in Die Hard.
