I haven't been to all the shops in Shibuya & Shunjuku but I guess Recofan is the cheapest and their collection is quite massive but alternative titles are not many as desired. But one can find some gems in the discount bins they have on the tables to the left of the entrance although none are less than 900 yen.

Recofan is the most expensive place of all...thanks to this thread I just discovered the HMV (a block down the street from Recofan) also pricey, but they have awesome ¥100-¥500 bins and the upstairs jazz is off the hook! Checkout Coconuts in Ekoda and Kichijoji, and the small one in Ikebukoro, the one near the west exit...

I passed by HMV a couple of times but did not enter as I thought they will carry mainly new stuff. Even Tower Records was not so great in terms of used vinyl. That's why I feel Recofan is cheaper as you can find some good stuff for reasonable prices whereas in shops like Disk Union and smaller stores, you have to pay a lot for the good titles.

Great stuff Yookmook. Did you leave any for me? LOL

I'm just starting to gear up for my annual pilgrimage, Sept 24-Oct 6. I say "annual" because I had such an incredible time last year that I decided I gotta do it every September now.

I'm seriously bumming though, as the Yen had advanced 15-20% on the dollar since last year. It was up to 100 yen to the dollar, but today's about 105 yen to the dollar... last year it was something like 120 yen.

If anyone has tips on any new shops, I'd sure appreciate it!

i don't understand why yen is so strong in this period. ?
stock market down down down ,
    people don't spend money,
it's in the recession period but yen is up.

my last 4 trips to tokyo/here is my information about vinyl.
1.vinyl price is up every year.
    2.record accessory is up .
3.most of high price vinyls are in good shape. (Nm mostly)
    4.japanese pressing is cheap.

    here is my suggestion.
    1. looking for sales day from diskunion.net/it can save you a lot of money if you buy a lot.
2.recofan has a tax refund if you buy more than 10000 yen/bring your passport.
3.check out vinyl want list from diskunion/you can sell them in a big lot.

    happy hunting

Not sure about the Dollar but the Brexit thing hit the Euro/Yen change badly for us.
The Euro basically lost 10% overnight but it's now slowly creeping back up.

I'm leaving for Osaka on the 8th of August. Will try to hit the new Disk Union shop there and a few more.
Then we'll visit Shikoku where I'm not anticipating much vinyl time.
We'll end up Tokyo for a few days as usual.

Please report back on Osaka stores when you get home. Not very good web coverage of Osaka in English. Much appreciated.

Anyone have ideas about how to ship home using a freight forwarder, consolidator, anything like that.... rather than spending a grand on postage to send 500-1,000 albums home from Tokyo to Seattle?

Yeah, I'm gonna hitch-hike there in 2 weeks...

Is hitchhiking doable?? Anyway, please post any interesting shops you find.

I'll be going there in a few months. I suspect that there are many good spots at more reasonable prices but I really do not have a good idea where to look. I only know of Sam's, which used to have a Tokyo branch in Shibuya but closed down several years ago.

I will be staying in Shinjuku in a few weeks for work and have about 7 hours on Friday to hit record stores in Shibuya and Shinjuku before a 10pm flight. Would love any suggestions on best places to go for classic rock- Dead, Dylan, 60s, etc. vinyl. Was there in 2014 and hit many stores but hoping to get best spots to go for a short day of hunting!
