Is that the real thing or a "relic'd" recreation? Either way, that's bitchen!

I was watching the wings for wheels documentary this evening and that's how he described it (esquire neck, fender body). He has other Teles, of course, but this is The One pictured on the BTR sleeve, etc.

I original bought a vintage white Fender Japan TL-62-66US '62 reissue from Ishibashi Music in Tokyo in 2002 and had it shipped to me, back before Fender USA started blocking unauthorized imports. I then sold that guitar in 2005, which I soon regretted.

About two years ago, I ran into the guy that bought it from me, and he mentioned that he had made a Tele custom build using everything but the Fender Japan body, so I was able to buy that back from him - just the wood and nothing else. I found an unused Fender Japan '60s 7.25" radius rosewood neck on eBay, and I loaded the body with Fender USA hardware including a set of Pure Vintage '64 pickups. It is a fantastic guitar. I sometimes use it with .011 flatwounds (with a plain G) for that true '60s sound, but currently I'm using .011 roundwounds.

I like to think of it as my Steve Cropper tribute guitar.

Albert was quite the entertaining player! Amazing how he could capo his guitar and take so many frets away but still play more soulfully than most guitarists could!

I am not sure under what circumstance, but Alex Lifeson apparently does a Telecaster in live settings. This is interesting because I associate him with a 335, a Les Paul, SG double neck. In other words by definition he is a Gibson man.

An Esquire is also a Fender and has the same body as a Tele. The chronology goes:

1950 -- Esquire (single pickup solid body) and Broadcaster (same body, two pickups)
    1951 -- Broadcaster renamed Telecaster

    Thank you! Mystery solved!

Alex is thought of as a 335 player early on and a LP player in the later years. Though he played his 52 RI Tele on the Vapor Trails tour. One Little Victory-->

(3:46 of the Rig Rundown -Lifeson's Tele. Noted as his primary writing tool.)

Dave has played a lot of different guitars extraordinarily well (probably the Flying V is the visual that springs to mind), but here's a very nice Telecaster moment:

That's great but so short! Have you heard the Dakotas with Mick Green but without Billy J ?

There's a great single called "The Spider And The Fly" on the Rubble LPs by them.
