It looks like Steven Wilson will indeed have his hands on This Was, rounding out the straggling early Tull remix projects with which we've been blessed these past few years. Newest post on the Steven Wilson Remixes FB page indicates as much: Steven Wilson Remixes | Facebook » Yet another JT album I've never owned, but will next year.
That would be great, even though the latest remaster of This Was sounds nice. One of the best albums by the band, in my opinion (I prefer it over Stand Up).
I have a 2001 reissue and it's terrible. Too slick and clean for the style of music in my opinion. I never play it. Fortunately I have the LP I bought in the early 80s.
A good surprise...but really...is there any chance of getting new stuff? I really doubt it. The 2008 edition already has a remix by the way, and does sound good. I prefer heavy Horses after SFTW... But who knows, maybe Steven was pranking...
Earli live performances? Other than the BBC sessions, I find it nearly impossible. Yeah, how can they mix 4 tracks into 5.1?
I'm not sure which "latest" remaster you mean but I have the 2009 remixed vinyl version-not by Wilson but sounds incredible.
I love this album as well, but I don't know what he'll bring to the party. The last 2 cd set sounded really good, nice to have the mono, though it certainly won't make any converts. I'm guessing maybe the first stereo mix (with the wet vocals) that is really tough to find nowadays. There are no live shows in existence for the band, only the BBC and we now have all of that.
Quote [link]: Sorry folks, release dates for some of the Panegyric releases have slipped back slightly. Revised release dates as follows: Yes (official) - Tales From Topographic Oceans 3CD/Blu-Ray + 2CD/2DVDA - 6th October King Crimson 40th anniversary (80's albums) - 20th October XTC - Skylarking CD/Blu-Ray remains on schedule for 13th October. Also a reminder that my remix of Jethro Tull's "Stand Up" will be released on 18th November. I'm very much focussing on my own music these days, but will certainly keep slotting in the remix projects whenever I can. The other already completed mixes, Roxy Music's debut and Tears for Fears "Seeds of Love", remain in a holding pattern. I hope both will come out next year, but then the Roxy album has been "next year" every year since I did it in 2012! In the meantime another set of XTC tapes from the Virgin era have been found, and I certainly plan to continue with the Tull series (This Was, Songs From the Wood...etc), so look out for these in 2017. I'm still waiting for the call from Kate Bush haha!
If anyone is interested, here is a thread where me and member Stefano G. discuss a bit an odd, not very common (in my own neck of the woods) vinyl pressing of TW, mastered in Italy by a reknowned guy named Piero Mannucci. I really love this version! Records - Italian Pressings Revealed »
ugh, Heard this years ago, don't care if I ever hear it again. Abrams said they used to do the blues song Rock Me in '68. That would be cool. Blodwyn Pig did a good version for the BBC, but I can't help but wonder what Tull could have sounded like.
People people, carefull with the enthusiasm ... First, at this point nothing is confirmed but SFTW. Second, This Was was recorded onto 4 tracks, hence, it is not possible to mix it in 5.1 I guess, and let´s keep in mind that SW is mainly involved in these reissue projects because he´s mainly iterested in the 5.1 thing Third, This Was has been remastered and remixed for the 2008 edition which is the best version available IMO and sounds really good. Not sure what else can be made to improve it further. Fourth, I doubt there are surviving outakes other than the BBC sessions and the Derek Lawrence recordings, which of course were ot recorded by the JT This Was incarnation, but as teh John Evan Smash. Although I hardly imagine SW mentioning This Was as a forthcomming project with no apparent reason, his post (the JT part) looks rather superfluous. I would take it with a grain of salt, but hopefully anyway.
From what I know of Wilson, he wouldn't mention it if it wasn't likely to happen. However, I agree it seems weird for him to be working with a four-track recording that has already had a good remix.
4 tracks = quad mix How much was bounced if get the previous bounced tracks then so good. The mix for 'in the court of the Crimson king' did this and was pretty good as a 5.1 mix
I dunno - is it likely that Steven Wilson would be involved (to the extent of mentioning it on his remixes FB page) if it simply meant a repackaging job? I'd sooner credit privit1's suggestion above of SW making some kind of interesting multichannel mix out of the four tracks.
Repeat: This Was, really? Just when I was expecting Heavy Horses. Jethro Tull - the Steven Wilson remixes »
