An announcement of The new Wilson Audio WAMM is due this evening, I gather some say it is an $800K a pair system with an optional woofer accessory.

Pics and a brief description due later on their site.

The original WAMM was launched some 33 years ago and reviewed here

I'm sure they'll sound breathtaking; but can they play the tune?

I still don't really "get" the Wilson aesthetic.

The designs always look clumsy and top heavy to me.

For $800k I could trade up my house.

  9. for $800,000, I'd better not need a "woofer accessory", and they bleeping well better have SOTA Bass w/o the accessory....

SMH (and I like most Wilson speakers [set up correctly with proper components in a good room] ).

Interesting. The original WAMM cost $35K in 1983. According to the CPI Inflation Calculator, that is $85,000 in 2016 money. The new WAMM cost nearly 10x that amount, apples to apples. Wrap your head around that and the law of diminishing returns!

That said, I routinely peruse the various websites for deals on a Watt/Puppy series 7 or 8. I really liked those speakers, no matter what anyone else said about them.

They're not as widely known as Wilson, but there are a few manufacturers making speakers priced well over a million bucks (Magico, Kharma, Transmission Audio, Hart Audio, etc.)

I can't get excited about furniture painted in automotive colors, especially funereal colors. I wanna see wood.

P.S. I apologize. There's something wrong with me.

    Agreed.

Has Wilson ever used real hardwoods in a speaker, historically?

Yes in the use of high quality veneers, the first WAMM made use of many exotic types, so did the WHOW accessory and the WATT.

    Older Watt/Puppies had wood panels.

Anyone who can afford $800K speakers can surely afford a separate room where WAF is not an issue.

But at that price, it must use platinum flakes for the metallic paint.

Yeah, if you can afford this there is no such thing as WAF.

I find them attractive in the way I find a Lamborghini attractive. It has a kind of mean, machismo, high performance look to it. Not purty, exactly, but cool.

I always thought Wilson speakers look better in real life than in photos.

It will probably sound much better than the Alexx which I heard in Chicago and blew me away with stellar sound. I look forward to hearing it.

Probably true, but you still won't find a pair in my home.

Heck, you are being VERY generous with that high percentage! Wait a moment, I did not think this through, there is no WAF as the wife already has 15 closets of tops, shoes, purses, dresses, she doesn't give a hoot it he puts them in the bedroom, she is totally under control, WAF 250%.
