Thanks for the info. I've thoroughly re-read all the specs on the Fender website. The American Standard was listed as having 1950'S pickups. I assumed it was modeled after the handmade 1950's model. Which, technically no two are exactly the same shape. Nice guitar , that Sunburst Strat is one of my favorites.

There's no picture of a tele, but here is Bill Frisell playing his, along with James McNew (of Yo La Tengo) and Jim Woodring, on a couple of old chestnuts from the Grateful Dead:

One of the few Grateful Dead songs with a Telecaster solo, and not by Garcia! David Nelson on the B-Bender.

I believe that Bloomfield switched to a Les Paul for the East/West record no?

there's a picture of him here with the genuine article:

  12. What a great thread. So many of my absolute fave Tele players have already been mentioned, but I'll add one here that I haven't seen. The great Robert Quine (although most people probably identify him more with the Stratocaster.)

I came to the Telecaster later in life myself. I was a Strat & Jazzmaster guy for years & just couldn't find a Tele neck that agreed with me. A couple of years ago I chose a 1989 '52 Reissue over a 1982 '52 Reissue in a shoot out & I've never looked back. I now have 5 top shelf 6-string electric guitars & the Tele is one of them: Fender Strat. Jazzmaster & Tele, Gibson SG & Epiphone Casino (I have 4 on the second tier- the Fender Jaguar is one of those, the last of the four foundational Fenders, along with a Gretsch 6120DC, Rickenbacker 330 & Danelectro DC-3... aI also use two 12-strings, a Rickenbacker 360-12 & A Danelectro DC-12 & finally a Danelectro U2 Baritone guitar too).

Here's Robert Quine speaking about his evolution of preferences guitar wise (and inadvertently of his love for Roy Buchanan)-
    "Robert on the telecaster:
"Sooner or later, most guitarists, after much trial and error, come to the conclusion that a particular guitar is the guitar for them. In ’96 I realized that for me it’s the Telecaster. By the early ’80s I knew that they were the best-sounding guitars ever, but I mostly stuck with Stratocasters because I thought they were more versatile; three pickups, vibrato bar, etc.

Anyway, in ’96 I locked myself in my apartment with a great Telecaster and a lot of Roy Buchanan albums. It took about six months, but I emerged a much better player – not doing anything especially new, stylistically, but playing with more authority.

Everybody has his or her own opinions, but for me the Telecaster will always be the ultimate guitar"

This was from an interview in Vintage Guitar Magazine."

For my money, no one played a Tele finer than Jesse Ed Davis.

Sorry, folks, we had to remove this for a bit of cleaning. Every time I read a page with a Dave Gilmour picture in it, my anti-virus blocked some malware. This means I had to delete some posts.

Try to be careful, okay? Thanks!

And I'd suggest running your malware and antivirus.....

I was just listening to Andy Timmons (playing a Fender Tele instead of his Ibanez) - Headed For The Ditch live. A little compressed but he has the right idea!
