John Cale's 1992 acoustic solo concert release has been reissued on Domino. Cale likes his albums brickwalled but i didn't think he'd do that to this one. Is this the first brickwalled acoustic album?[IMG]

How does this compare with the original version? I have the 1992 cd somewhere but can't lay my hands on it right now...
I seem to remember it as sounding fine.
I was hoping to pick up this new version for the bonus tracks. Hope it doesn't sound too bad.

The original cd sounds great. That is disappointing as i was tempted to get this on vinyl.

What a shame! I'll probably stick with my original one then.
But what are the new bonus tracks like gazatthebop?

Are they just an official release of the long available (and excellent) John Cale & Strings Concert '92 bootleg cd?

That was my first thought but no, Cale has "a bin" full of early 90's concert recordings, he's gone through those to find the best alternative versions, some solo others with David Soldier's String ensemble

I am led to believe the 3 xLP version with the extra tracks is only available via Domino. It was supposed to be available through independent retailers but the van from the pressing plant (Optimal media) crashed and Domino kept all the undamaged stock, sending an email saying to retailers that they were unable to deliver any 3LP stock to the shops.

American Recordings was released in April 1994. Fragments Of A Rainy Season was released in September 1992.

    Cale's 1992 version of Fragments isn't brickwalled

    What a waste.
How could they screw up a piano/vocal album.

You'll have to ask Adam Moseley, i emailed him but he hasn't replied yet!

Hope the vinyl version is not tainted with the loudness debacle as well.

The resequencing has also led to some clunky editing (very rapid fading up or down of audience applause), which is unfortunate.

It was LP friendly track continuety wise i.e. Flipping the cassette over for side two. I like that thinking momentarily pause thing ( of courses LPs set the precedent). If i seen another Fragments cassette, I'd dare say get it.

What a shame. I'll stick with my original good sounding CD and listen to the bonus tracks on Spotify.

I've been hoping for a vinyl issue of Cale's 1996 "Walking on locust" for a long time, somehow the idea has lost its appeal
