Every rock fan over 50 (the bulk of his audience) knows Mark Farner - he doesn't need that part anyway.

See above...........they are wonderful and by far the best Funk on CD. They were also remastered with some bonus tracks. But, if you can find them, there is no comparison between the two.
Well, let me say, I don't think the remastered We're An American Band was as bad as the others. A lot of people perfer the Audio Fidelity WAAB to even the Pastmasters.

Honestly, what age group is likely to have more disposable cash these days? It is the fans of this bands generation. I don't know if they could go arenas but I think they could do 2,500 - 5,000 seaters or a bit more. I would definitely be there.

As much as I love GFR, I don't think they'd be able to sell out arenas if they reunited. They were definitely a band of their time.

One probable reason is that when Farner became a Christian, he went really hard into it, very committed and evangelical. Brewer and Schacher are still just old rock'n'rollers so I'm sure they didn't appreciate that. However I understand that Farner's Christian views have since modified even further and that's put him on the outs with his former CCM colleagues, but he's still a man of strong principles. Plus Brewer supposedly got Farner's teenage son stoned backstage at a concert, and I'm sure that didn't end well between him and Farner.

However, I think what it comes down to is that Brewer got a law degree and he just figured out how to steal the band name from Farner and he did it. It seems like a really sneaky, underhanded thing that he did. Farner says that Brewer told him that he was incorporating GFR, and that they'd have to sign over their individual rights to the name to "protect" the band name. Well, they "protected" themselves by handing the whole thing to a corporation owned by Brewer. Then Brewer had the ability to fire Mark and deny him use of the name.

What are your opinions about Bruce Kulick in the band?

I always wants to ask so real GFR fans this question. Just wondering

I stumbled upon that at a flea market last year for like $10.
    Couldn't believe it.

Very well said. I'd much rather see Mark solo than the current GFR lineup.... which would sort of being the equivalent of seeing Creedence Clearwater Revisited.

Its really sad that GFR is mainly forgotten except for the diehards.

Bruce Kulick is a great guitar player but GFR is fronted by Mark Farner and I don't support it any other way.

I think Bruce did a great job in KISS and he fills in well here. But as above, he can't fill Mark's shoes.

Farner played one of the western Washington casinos a year or so ago. The television ad included the name "Grand Funk Railroad ". (There was an ongoing GFR thread discussing this same issue so I honed in on it.) So at least once it slipped through the cracks.

I've seen the current Grand Funk 3 times over the last 12 years, enjoyed them but the setlists were near identical each time & the order of songs was weird.
They need to change the tunes up some & put them in proper order for a concert.

I will share what I've been told about the Split between Don Brewer and Mark Farner. When Grand Funk rejoined in 1996 (after a 20 year break up) Mark was very vocal about his faith. He became more vocal at their concerts using the stage as a platform to share his Christian faith. The 700 club did a story on Mark Farner and his Christian beliefs sometime in the late 90's (I think it's on youtube). Apparently Don and Mel grew tired of Mark getting too preachy at their concerts. This info comes from a friend (recently deceased) who was a huge fan of GFR. He saw them many times in the early 70's and several times during the 96 - 98 peroid. I don't know how accurate this info is, or how much this played a part in letting Mark go. We will probably never know all the reasons of the split. I for one, would love to see fences mended and one more tour of Mark Don and Mel.

Don't forget the drum circle thing.
It was kinda cool the first time but now its just a waste of time that could've been 2 more old songs.
Between that & Brewer's drum solo I believe he's looking for ways to fill a 75 min set while skirting as many Farner tunes as possible.

What a prick. I'm a firm believer of karma. What goes around comes around.

I have a few musician friends that have worked with Mark Farner on various projects over the years. Every account is that he is a genuine, down to earth, good guy. Very enjoyable to work with.

It's unfortunate people like Brewer prey on others like that. It's even worse when you consider that he was once a trusted friend.

It's not the fans that are the issue. It's the casinos and other venues who insist that he be identified as "Formerly of Grand Funk Railroad" just to offer him the gig. I've seen an interview with Farner where he has stated himself that he loses work because of this.

I saw them live on the 96-98 reunion tour and they were awesome.

Would love to see the original lineup 1 more time.
