According to two of the band's roadies, Butch Trucks passed away last night. The family's in shock and the announcement should happen with in the next couple of hours.
I'm in a few different FB ABB related pages and groups, and the news broke last night but then it was hushed so people could be notified in person etc.

I'm devastated, could barely sleep after first finding out last night, I went to bed praying it's a hoax, but it would have come out by now that it was, so expect news to officially break soon.

Saw him with Les Brers two years ago, he was as solid as ever.

    RIP.

  2. Not easy to wake up to this kind of news again. I feel deeply for his entire family. I will post very little today, as I will celebrate this mans contribution to music, his influence on many fans as well. Goodbye Butch, and thank you from this long, long time fan.

It's not easy to hear it before bed either, and not get a confirmation one way or another. I had to go to sleep, but was awake long before my alarm to check whether it had been refuted.
It's been too long for it not to be true, someone would have jumped in by now, fans are going crazy.

One of the two roadies worked with a Jack Weston on an ABB book, and it's Weston who posted about it, adding fuel to the rumour being true. He left Butch's pic up, but took down the writing on it, but by then it was too late, the unconfirmed news was in all the groups I'm in.

Oh man, this is so terrible. RIP Butch

My last memory of the Allmans I will cherish. I actually had the coveted seats on stage for one of their Beacon Theatre shows and during intermission I walked backstage and met Butch. He signed a nice autograph for me and was very cool. Terrible loss but these things are getting more common as the musicians we love are getting a lot older.

Butch and Jaimoe were like a single heartbeat when they played together. Surely one of the finest percussion teams in music.

    No...just...no! :wtf:

This is terrible news to wake up to.
My heart aches right now. The Allman Brothers Band have always been tops for me.

Butch, alongside Jaimoe, was half of the best drumming duo in rock music. I've heard my share of music across many genres and those 2 cats had a unique and telepathic thing going on...it always worked, too.

There have been several musician deaths thus far in 2017, but this is a big one on my radar. My way of making sense of this is: to accept it as a part of the life cycle. And I'll celebrate his musical contributions. There will be some ABB spinning today.

Oh my God! I'm shocked! A case of reading it several times before I can grasp it. Rest in peace, Butch.

I'm thankful for the music his life brought to mine. He was an absolute Titian and one of a kind.

Still holding out that this isn't true since I can't find anything anywhere about it.

I'm seeing Derek in concert this weekend.

I understand completely. I hope it's a hoax, but all the signs are pointing to it being true. We'd have heard it was a hoax by now, this "rumour" has been going around for eight hours now.

Ironically, I've been spinning the 2nd disc of Brothers And Sisters deluxe edition the past few days. There's some great rehearsals on that disc...the rehearsal take of One Way Out from October 1972 just swings...the Butch and Jaimie drum break is fantastic.
