So it's now May of 2016. Does anyone, anywhere have any info to add to this? I played this album today (my old Capitol mono LP) and still love it like crazy.

Any new information would be appreciated!

Since virtually every person involved in the recording and post-production has been acknowledged, why not credit Jim Jonson's cover art, too?

    Otherwise, I've got nothin' else.

Don't know why I still have a bug up my butt about this.

The "M" we were wondering about, I was told is was a Maurice someone. Does that give anyone a clue? I'd like to get that last name..

When did Maurice Long start at Capitol? He was certainly there in the '70s.

Don't know exactly when he started, but Mr. Long was already working in their mastering department in the early years of "Beatlemania" in the '60's. Some reference acetates he'd cut of some albums had 'ml' typed in on the labels.

According to an earlier post of yours from years ago, he seems to have been there no later than 1959.

Going through some old notes, I was reminded of the unknown "M" responsible for the 1959 protection copy. Mike Edson, who ran the lacquer cutting rooms at Capitol during this period, is one possibility. I've seen his initials show up on tape boxes as "M.E.", but I'm also convinced that engineers/cutters at Capitol weren't always the ones adding their names or initials to the tape boxes they handled, so the "M" alone shouldn't rule him out for this.

I should look at the matrix info on my old copies. I never did.
