A lot of people seem to believe or assume that Julian Lennon's Too Late for Goodbyes was done by a certain parent of his. I may or may not have been such a person at a much younger age.
Also one time I overheard some people trying to recall who did Suzanne Vega's Luka, and one guessed Billy Joel.

P.S. Long-time reader, first-time poster. Apologies for the default "bathroom" avatar -- apparently I need to post three times before I can change it.

Totally get that, but most of the song is some guy no one had ever heard of that sounds nothing like MJ. I just found it humorous but I can see how casual listeners could make the mistake.

Back in 1976, Roger McGuinn had Tom Petty's "American Girl" played for him, which led to McGuinn asking his manager, "When did I write that?"

McGuinn would record his own version on his 1977 album Thunderbyrd.

I only know the Michael Jackson bit, so I always thought it was him.

A lot of folks still have no idea that Three Dog Night's hit "One (is the Loneliest Number)" is a cover of the song written and recorded by Harry Nilsson or that Harry's mega-hit "Without You" is a cover, written and recorded by Pete Ham & Tom Evans with Badfinger.

  8. I'm surprised by a lot of these responses but, in a way I'm not. My wife (no disrespect and I love her dearly) couldn't honestly tell the Stones from Zep sometimes or KISS from Pink Floyd. I wish I was kidding.

Always thought Moody's 'Evening (Time To Get Away)' was a Pink Floyd song, the guitar intro reminded me of 'Hey You'

The Romantics' What I Like About You is often credited to The Ramones especially by beautiful young women in Ramones t shirts.

Doesn't KISS' "Hard Luck Woman" sometimes get credited to Rod, too?

I was in a store and Led Zeppelin was playing. A middle aged woman asked me "Is this The Cars?"
It was no big deal and I was very polite to her.
    I was just very surprised.

Okay, that was is excusable because if you've only heard the song once or twice and maybe heard it in a noisy room it does kind of have a Buddy vibe to it if you just don't know who The Everly Brothers are.

Happy Rhodes' song "When The Rain Came Down" is constantly attributed as a duet between Kate Bush and Annie Lennox - who have never worked together.

My whole life I've thought this song was by Simon and Garfunkel. I've no idea why.
