We all have gone through this: at some point of their career our favorite bands announces a box set release with the promise of being an awesome collection of new songs versions, demo tracks, live stuff, interviews, dvd shows, etc.

So, we all feel the hype growing inside our bodies until the fatidic moment arrives: the track list, artwork and all the content are revealed. The hype is gone and the disappointment takes over :realmad:

Tell me about if you have a box set which was a big disappointment to you.

Don't get me wrong: I really like that box set for what it is, but I was so disappointed that "Just Like That" was not included in its entirety...and the mastering of the whole thing is much too bright...so the REAL disappointment was the fragment of JLT and the sound itself...otherwise I think it is a fine set.

Forever Diana. A few new songs of varying quality, a track lifted straight off the soundtrack of a TV special, and not much else I didn't have a dozen times. It had a flimsy outer box as well.

    Another one: Megadeth - Warchest

Not satisfied by remixing all the back catalog, doing a horrible job and destroying the songs, Dave Mustaine decided to realease a box set only using the remixed versions of the songs.

The John Lennon vinyl boxset was really poor I thought, deserved much more.

Was really disappointed with the recent Oasis box sets also for definitely maybe, morning glory and be here now.

This one definitely. Instead of a comprehensive, super-deluxe set, we got 2 discs of the original album, 2 discs of a previously released live album (never mind a live album that had already been released in a beautiful deluxe box only a few years prior), a very underwhelming DVD with hardly any content that Floyd fans hadn't already seen and two discs of session tracks, excerpts and snippets from the original demos, many of which were under a minute long! No sign of the songs that only appeared in the film, hardly any filmed footage of the live shows, but we've got marbles!! A premium priced box for very little "immersive" content.

Not to mention that the remastering was done very poorly. Definitely the worst box set I ever purchased.

Just...mediocre. A huge disservice to such a wonderful band.

Seventeen posts in and no one's mentioned the 2009 Stereo Beatles set? You're slipping, folks.

It has more to do with how it sounds to be honest. The extras are not that bad but the reissue has been killed by improper mastering.

It totally sucks from a sonic point of view with all the dynamics killed by overcompression.

The Who's 2 disc CD Live at Leeds Deluxe Edition was bad enough with its poor sound quality, but nothing prepared me for the 2 disc My Generation. Someone phased out instruments such as the lead guitar in the title track. How that passes QA is beyond me.

Which shouldn't have been too surprising, as the bonus material (ie. demos) weren't that listenable on the Experience version.
