i am truly amazed the 'endless wire' got a vote, truly amazed.

quite possibly the worst album ever released by a major band, and i sprung for the extra special (extra money) set.

I think their best and most important record was Tommy. That said The Who By Numbers is probably my go-to Who record.

I've come to realize that I'm a much bigger fan of The Who's singles. Those '60s sides ("My Generation", "Happy Jack", "Boris The Spider", "I Can't Explain", "I'm A Boy", "Magic Bus", etc.) are so witty, funny, inventive and unique. There isn't much in pop music that sounds anything like them from '65-'68. Obviously, I respect the '70s stuff. But for me, it's the '60s Who.

My roundabout way of saying that my favorite album is Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy.

Agreed on NUMBERS, a great album by all criteria. Plus I have the same take on Who Are You.

I can't agree regarding Sell Out, Tommy, and Quadrophenia, however. I never warmed up to Sell Out as an entire album, and I believe Tommy and Quadrophenia are world-class in their entirety.

Sell Out for me, but I'm surprised that it outranked Tommy by such a wide margin.

I'm a bit surprised by it, though I like it a lot more than you do, but I'm far more disappointed that Who Are You, Face Dances and It's Hard have so few votes.

Yep. Face Dances gets a lot of negativity, yet it's not a bad album to my ears. It delivers some great moments, like You Better, You Bet and Don't Let Go The Coat.

Who's Next. A perfect 5-star album. Followed by Quadrophenia and then Tommy. The latter two have been relegated to the nostalgia section of my brain, only being played on occasion (though enjoyed when I do). Who's Next makes all of my "best ever album lists" whenever the forum has such a thread.

I'm not saying that this is true, necessarily, but this poll makes it look like if it weren't for Who's Next, The Who Sell Out and Quadrophenia, the Who wouldn't be very well-liked at all.

For years and years the answer would have been Who's Next and I voted for it today but for about the past 5 years I have listened to Tommy way more than any other Who album.

That's one way to look at it. What I would suggest is that they (well, Pete, let's face it) had massive creative peaks that were impossible to sustain.

Who's Next is No. 1, and then the The Kids Are Alright soundtrack and Tommy are just about tied for me.

The poll requires only one selection, so I don't follow your line of thinking. Certain albums can be (and are) more popular. And The Who always was, and is, extremely well liked in a live setting.
