Check out the uploader's (Anthony Reichardt) Youtube channel...there's tons of great stuff like that on it.

I like this, too! Thank you @John54. I really like that they are using a harpsichord in a type of song and style where it's very rarely heard.
Mandolph is a really good singer - I wish they had gotten a better take on this - her pitch is shaky at times, but she sounds very capable of a better cut. I'd never heard her before this post.

I assume the song's author is the same David Gates who eventually ended up as the celebrated lead singer of Bread? He looks the right age in that photo, and I think I remember that he was a songwriter before Bread. Record says he produced this too - well then he was a damn good producer too!

What's News, Pussycat - The Cryin' Shames.....is actually Dylan's On the Road Again from Bringing it all Back Home with new lyrics.
Bassist George Robinson: "I wrote What's News, Pussycat?. That is definitely mine, although I am now forced to share composer rights with Bob Dylan. I ripped off the tune of On the Road Again."

Wow, this is my favorite thread and somehow I've been away from it for a year. I guess I've been too busy researching and buying hifi components and records. Oh well, when you're my age a year now feels like an hour used to back in the 60's. I'll start catching up. It looks like there have been a lot of good posts since page 65. :edthumbs:

Actually, she's best known as the writer of this song (she also sings backup):

Poco (I wore out the grooves on Pickin' Up The Pieces)! Fever Tree! The Sons of Champlin! Sweet Thursday! Rotary Connection....Sopwith Camel....I could go on. Making me remember bands and songs from back when vinyl was affordable.

How DO you embed a song? I tried once, and failed.

Well...let's see if this works. The band is Saint Steven, from the days when I bought any album that had an interesting cover. 1969, and classified as psychedelic.

    I think it's obscure.

This is from one of those 99 cent budget 'Beatlesploitation' LP's, but it's a pretty cool song nonetheless.
The record company (Coronet) gave the songs new titles to make them seem 'more english' (and claimed it was 'Recorded
    In England'...it wasn't.)

I really like the sonics of that one. The song itself is a little too much "Walk On By" territory... But I love the sonics of that mix.

Always listen to the B-side! The flip of Brenton Wood's big hit, "Gimme Little Sign" is a gem called, "I Think You've Got Your Fools Mixed Up." Incredible little soul side!
