From what I've heard, I just love the centred vocals! :agree: "Rubber Soul" should be done next, not the White album.

I have heard about a dozen different releases of Sgt. Peppers. Bootlegs, imports and reissues on vinyl, CD and USB. To my ears, this is the best version so far. The 5.1 mix is pretty impressive. But the stereo is excellent. The Bluray audio is gorgeous! I'm disappointed to see such a negative reception here. But it won't stop my enjoyment of this remix. Giles did his Dad proud, I would suspect.

Musically I could agree completely, but Apple will ultimately be making business decisions. The business decision that makes most sense is to prioritise a White Album set for before the end of 2018.

Does anyone else not think that, regardless of anniversaries, that Abbey Road should be the next?? :hide:

If you are familiar with Steve's work (and if you are here you should) it's pretty easy to deduce what he thinks of the sound of the new mix.

It doesn't matter what Steve thinks of the remix. What matters is what YOU think.

Hi Steve, thanks for dropping by.

Not sure if you'd oblige us or play the politically correct card by not doing so, could you give the remix a listen and let us know what you think of it?

    Thanks!

  12. Heck even Jon Astley is mastering friendly sounding releases!

My guess is that Steve hasn't commented because he probably hasn't heard it yet.

Edit: I see my guess is confirmed.

Maybe not directly. Are we talking about the same forum?

  16. If I were to do something as time wasting as guessing what Steve's opinion might be of this 'new' Sgt. Pepper, I would simply look at his track record, or his mastering signatures on the stuff he's done and ask yourself if you hear any of that in Giles' work.

I'm listening to the Giles Martin interview from yesterday's Fresh Air for June 1, 2017

He demo'd some tracks for Bob Clearmountain, who got tears in his eyes and said it was like smoking cannabis and hearing the album for the first time.

Speaking of the '87 discs and I know it's been talked about ad nauseum, what were some of the other cd's that are still prefered to the '09 releases??
Looks like I will be picking up the '87 Peppers again and giving it a spin.

Eh, I'm not a fan of modern remixes, but I'm thrilled that the greatest album ever made is now #1 again after 50 years.

This version was obviously mixed and mastered for a new generation who seem to love it. That's fine with me, in fact it makes me quite happy. I have my Parlophone LPs to keep me warm at night.

    The Beatles live on.

Judging by repetitive posts on this forum the 1987 Revolver and The White Album are preferred.

What's funny is I never moved on from the 87's. Never felt the need to.
