Anybody meet any British film stars from that decade ?
One springs to mind is Albert Finney he was doing a play in London's west end ( late nineties) happened to notice him carrying vegetables( shopping between performances ). Spoke to him, mentioned I enjoyed his Dennis Potter Lazarus tv series Cold Lazarus, he told me "I had to do it". Mentioned "Gumshoe" he seemed impressed. Don't visit London that often, but I always seem to spot someone.

A Kind of Loving is top of the pops for me! Great novel and very good movie version. The old TV adaptation is pretty good too, and takes in the two sequels forming the whole Vic Brown story ( also has the gorgeous Joanne Whalley as Ingrid)

Besides comedy relief, there were the working class comedy STARS, stereotypical though they were, but much loved by their "constituency", like Gracie Fields, George Formby, Frank Randle, etc.

THE PUNCH AND JUDY MAN(1963)where an antique shop owner who desperately wants to hob nob with the aristocracy(Sylvia Syms)is married to a man who's perfectly happy to be a seaside puppeteer-well happy by TONY HANCOCK standards! In his TV series, Hancock was usually the pretentious aspirational one, and his flat mate, happy-go-lucky spiv Sidney James, was the one who tried to keep him grounded in a kind of "Odd Couple" set up.

If you ever move into the 1970s, you might want to check our Horace Ové's Pressure:

Very naturalist and often pure mood, as evidenced by the below clip

Do young people like sixties films per se? I mean it was 50 years ago.

The post upthread re- Harry H Corbett reminded me of this film as well. I was going to get round to mentioning it but you beat me to it :) I was surprised to read via wiki that this film was made after the Steptoe and Son character had already been established on British TV.

Another earlier film with Working Class Characters in the leads was THIS HAPPY BREED(1944), though one could argue that they were more lower-middle.

And a HANCOCK radio episode featured a playwright known as "The Hungry Young Man".
