With all of the greatness of, and excitement for the newly released "Sunshine Tomorrow" set, let's focus on the next two years of 1968 and 1969. This time around, I don't think we need either Friends or 20/20 remixed, though we've gotten some of those tracks remixed or expanded in the last several years. It's a little early for me, so let's run down what we have gotten from this period, officially, and then what we'd like to see:

    Friends album 1968
    Friends (mono 45 mix)
Little Bird (mono mix/b-side of Friends)
Meant For You (extended version; Made In California)
Sail Plane Song (demo; Endless Harmony soundtrack)
Sail Plane Song (stereo remix, Made In California)
Do It Again (mono 45 mix)
Do It Again (early version; Endless Harmony soundtrack)
    Do It Again (stereo remix)
A Time To Live In Dreams (Hawthorne, CA set)
I Went to Sleep (a cappella mix; Hawthorne, CA)
Time To Get Alone (alternate version; Hawthorne, CA
Friends (live in Chicago 1968; Made In California)
Little Bird (live in Chicago 1968; Made In California)
    20/20 album
Be With Me (backing track; Hawthorne, CA)
Be with Me (demo; Made In California)
Bluebirds Over The Mountain (mono 45 mix)
Bluebirds Over The Mountain (Dutch version w/ping pong percussion overdubs)
We're Together Again (mono mix [Friends/20/20 2-fer], stereo remix [Made In California]
    Ol' Man River (Friends/20/20 2-fer)
Ol' Man River *vocal section (Made In California)
Where Is She (Made In California)

And there's a good chunk of mixes and stuff on the Goodbye Surfing, Hello God boot from this era (don't ask me about it, per forum rules please :) ), so now what would you like to see a on proposed 2 cd set from 1968/1969?

Please note, I've no links to BRI, or anyone in the Beach Boys camp. If I did, I'd be beating down the walls to make this stuff happen for us fans :)

I'd love to see the 1968 Chicago concert released in full, or at least *more* of it...and how about isolating Brian's wordless vocal on the Stephen Kalinch track "Lonely Man"....many don't know about this one. Some live stuff from 1969? There's a lot of stuff in the vaults :)

I didn't like that mix, at all. The demo on Endless Harmony was perfect!

And it was the creation of over zealous archivists, not the artist's intention.

I don't know what else was recorded around this time, but if this was extended to cover Sunflower too, we wound have 'Walkin'', 'Over The Waves' the original arrangement of 'Big Sur', some variations of 'Lady' with more BB participation, and a load of already released gems like 'Soulful Old Man Sunshine', 'San Miguel' and 'Loop de Loop'. Yeah!

Great ideas! Id include them on a Sunflower/Surf's Up set :) And how about My Solution, Brian's vocal attempts on the track Surf's Up, etc.

Maybe some Breakaway stuff and Celebrate The News should be in the 68/69 set?

I really gotta stop...I'm getting on a Beach Boys kick again :)

If the powers that be have any marketing sense at all I don't think we will see an anniversary set for 20/20 until... er...2020 :)

  16. Perhaps my favorite BB era, I'd love to see an expanded set!

Stephen Desper (Beach Boys engineer) actually made some great sounding "remixes" of Friends for one of his "Study Videos"

Is the Spanish Guitar thing from this era? I always thought it was a little bit earlier, like right after Smiley. Why, I don't exactly know.

Brother Records could take a page from the Elvis label Follow That Dream as a model for providing outtakes and archival recordings to the public. It's pretty staggering the wealth of material that FTD has released. The Beach Boys archive is sure to contain a great deal of valuable recordings that fans would love to hear.

He started working on it during the Smiley/Wild Honey period, as we've heard again on this latest set, and then continued to work on it in 1968, in its more familiar incarnation as featured on the Good Vibrations set and elsewhere. The early version fits well with the soul feel of Wild Honey, while the later version would have fit well on Friends.
