Was a great year for music, a great time to be young. When The Runaways' first album came out, my friends and I all bought instruments and formed a band.

I'd say that 1976 is the year when the most amazing period in recorded music started running out of the juice. With the exception of Stevie Wonder "Songs in the Key of Life" and Joni Mitchell's "Hejira", I can't think of any other release from that year that could match the incredible run the music industry had witnessed during the 10 years from 1965 to 1975. Those were indeed the magic years, never to be matched again.

Even in jazz, 1976 signalled the beginning of the end. Weather Report released their last good album ("Black Market"), Return to Forever released their swan song ("Romantic Warrior"). Not much else worth mentioning happened in music that year.

Guess you're not into the ensuing (IMO) brilliant albums under such labels as: Punk, post-punk, new wave, NWOBHM, heavy metal, thrash, electronic pop in various forms, rap, grunge etc. :D

    Many brilliant albums from 1976:

    Station To Station
    The Royal Scam
    Rainbow Rising
    Year Of The Cat

Can't agree with your comment on Weather Report. Regardless of whether you're a fan of Jaco or not, Night Passage, Procession, Heavy Weather are all great albums. Witness the Legendary Tapes 78-81 live recordings.

I do agree generally that there was less great recordings. Hejira, Sitkol, Royal Scam, Still Life (VDGG), Bright Size Life (Metheny), Unorthodox Behaviour (Brand X), Wired (Jeff Beck), Black Market, Zoot Allures (Zappa) only for me.

Would also like to say 'Long May You Run' too ... ok well maybe ..

Except it isn't! It's a lot of individuals naming their favourite albums from 1976. Because we all have different tastes a lot of albums will be mentioned in separate lists. What do you expect?

You posted a similar load of crap in a Queen thread too. Do you have difficulty understanding thread titles?
