Stylus Retipping Service (phono cartridge) - specialist from Russia, Moscow

Hello everybody!
My name is Roman, I'm from Moscow (Russia) and I specialize in retipping of phono cartridges.
There is not so many specialists or companies around the world who can do this...
I know only "SoundSmith", Alex (from Germany) and Van Den Hul.
For the last years I have re-tipped a lot of cartridges and my clients was satisfied.
It was low cost cartridges (Denon 103 for example) and high cost cartridges (Van Den Hul, Linn, Koetsu etc.)

I personally would love to see some of the photos that were posted here and learn more about the process. It's interesting, and one more person in the world who can take on this very specialized work is a good thing for all of us. I didn't interpret the original post as something intended to solicit customers but rather to introduce himself and discuss the practice.

 

Good luck bud, it's a great forum to be at for anyone who loves music and audio so hopefully they'll grant your account further posting privileges soon. My best suggestion is to interact more and post, I think once you hit maybe 25-50 posts there may not be an issue anymore. Since you know a lot about hardware, just add your opinion to the various ongoing discussions elsewhere on the hardware subforum

 

I agree, share your knowledge. You probably have seen and handled more styluses than most people on the forum. Which ones you do like and why ? Which ones do you feel are overpriced and tend to wear out to quickly, which ones offer best bang for the buck etc. I'm sure you can get a very nice conversation going if you give your specialist view on popular and not so popular brands.

My favorite stylus - gold plated boron cantilever with "MicroLine" shape diamond from Audio Technica ATN-150MLX. Outstanding quality! This is my favorite one, but very expensive as a spare part for retipping service. And Audio Technica just stoped to produce boron cantilevers about year ago (and Jico did the same with their boron S.A.S. cantilevers), so those gold plated "MicroLine" cantilevers is almost out of stock around the world or price is very high. My second favorite - Jico S.A.S. (Super Analog Stylus) made in Japan. "S.A.S." shape of the diamond is the same as "MicroLine" (sometimes you can see titles as MicroRidge, MicroLinear). But since Jico stoped dealing with boron material, they replaced it with sapphire and ruby. Its also outstanding quality materials. And my third favorite - Audio Technica ATN-440MLX, aluminum cantilever with "MicroLine" shape diamond. Still can be found for sale and price is acceptable. Audio Technica right now producing a lot of styluses with "Shibata" and "LineContact" shape diamonds on aluminum cantilevers and its still possible to find some other boron cantilevers from old Audio Technica cartridges.

 

I hope tomorrow I will be able to finally upload some pictures for all of you (my best works). Right now I'm working on Denon 304 and EMT JSD 6.

I bought EMT just for $166, that was my "deal of the year"!

Even original cantilever/stylus didn't get lost!

I've heard that EMT JSD 6 is a very very good sounding cartridge! Cant wait to repair it.

 

Good luck here. I do have to give a shout out to the Gorts however for being on the job and attempting to keep out the riff raff. Not saying you are at all, but hope you can respect the concept. This is a GREAT place, mostly nonviolent and we just want it to stay that way.

You are right, I've got a good eyesight and steady hands.
And as a rule - to each cartridge an individual approach in repair!

 

My principle of work is to repair not only qualitatively, but also beautifully (without gap, glue, uneven seam etc.)
Sometimes even there are no signs of repair at all.
Always doing my work as if I'm doing it for myself.

 

Amazing work! Definitely no steady hands for me. I'd never be able to pull this off. How do you source the cantilevers/styli?
