Yeah, I'm headed in that direction anyway it seems.

Ironic you mentioned The Seventh Seal...it's one of my oldest Criterion discs and the only one (that I didn't just recently buy) that I've never watched...not sure why.

Great movie. You must be waiting to watch it on Blu-ray. :)

    Perhaps, lol.

Honestly, I think I read that it was a classic but a bit drawn out and, dare I say, boring...so I put it aside and never came back to it.

There are a couple parts that are a bit slow, but they bothered me more on repeat viewings. It is only an hour and a half long, so I think you will be fine.

I added For All Mankind and pre-ordered Rebecca. I might buy the Ingmar Bergman Trilogy that's only available on DVD, making it my only DVD criterion I currently own. I want to buy Ran but considering it's only available on DVD and such a nice looking film, a Blu Ray release in the very near future seems certain. Right now it's out of print and too expensive.

  11. Just A Few, all but one on Blu-ray:
    3:10 To Yuma
    Badlands
    Days Of Heaven
    Gimme Shelter
    Monterey Pop
    My Darling Clementine
    One-eyed Jacks
    Quadrophenia
    Seven Samurai

I have The Third Man on DVD. I regularly kick myself for not upgrading to the Blu-ray before it went out of print.

Note to self: I must get The Seventh Seal on Blu-ray before the same thing happens again.

There is a recent 4K restoration of RAN that has been released on Blu in Europe (UK, Germany, and France) by Studio Canal, but those releases are region-locked, so they're non-starters if you don't have a region-free player. I haven't heard anything about a Criterion Blu release, but I'd be happy to be proven wrong. Remember they originally announced a Blu back in 2009 but pulled it from the release schedule at the same time the DVD went out of print due to rights issues.

I am probably just going to get the UK Blu, as it's really cheap, packed with extras (it's a 2-disc set), and from most indications looks spectacular.

Is there a 'Last Picture Show' stand-alone yet?

Forgot I had 'The Man Who Fell To Earth' from Criterion. Some great extras with that. Definitely into Nicolas Roeg films.

I forgot to add Vivre Sa Vie.

What are some titles you wished Criterion would release? I wish they would get a crack at Hero and House Of Flying Daggers from Zhang Yimou. Both have gotten flawed Blu ray releases and could use Criterion's touch.

Well, I did get it yesterday...and Jules & Jim...I'm seriously done for now, lol

I honestly don't have a lot of issues with this Blu-ray of Ran:

Yes, there is noticeable edge enhancement but honestly is only distracting if you're looking for it. Otherwise, it's quite detailed, there is grain, and the colors are spectacular. I just can't abide that teal tone on the re-released 4k Blu-ray. And don't expect Criterion to regain the rights anytime soon.

Another movie that would benefit greatly from the Criterion touch is A Simple Plan, Sam Raimi's excellent movie that's always flown under the radar. And the DVD leaves much to be desired.
