    I'm asking the question;
    In your opinion who were the greatest British rock band's that didn't make it big in the U.S.?
    Or didn't meet with the public acclaim that they experienced in Britain.
    And I want to limit this to GREAT British rock bands not just any good band.

    Please do not say OASIS as they had a lot of success here in the U.S.

    I can think of a few off hand that are relatively unknown in the USA for various reasons.
    I've seen these bands playing small clubs when they should have been playing 3000 seat venues.

    Wishbone Ash
    Mott The Hoople
    Pretty Things

    Their guitarists have all been British though, apart from Gorham...Moore, Bell, Robertson, Ure, White and Sykes (I don't think I've missed any!)

    First album noticed here in Canada. After that's, not so much.

    Yep, everything Paul Weller, Faces, Small Faces, Blur (maybe one song)...

    Thin Lizzy was Irish.
    They cannot be "squeezed" in a thread with "British" in the title.

    They are not citizens of the UK, but they were certainly born in the British isles so they are definitely British.

    They were from Belfast, so technically they were British. I doubt very much that they regarded themselves as British though.

    Being born in the British Isles doesn't make you British! The Republic of Ireland is an entirely separate nation, which you'd discover at your peril if you went into a Dublin pub and loudly insisted that it's clientele were British (though with it being Dublin, it'd probably just be Brits on stag do's anyway!)
