Actually, it would be kinda cool if they got Joel Edgerton to come back as Owen.

I think the writer/producer/director on that account flaked out.

The aunt Beru spin off is a joke. It has to be some internet gag thing. The most insignificant character with probably no more than 15 minutes total screen time from the movies. **** while were at it, how about a spin off with the Bith musicians in star wars canteena showing how they got turned down from every major galactic record company and ended up gigging on some back water planet.

For an adult. That was never what it was about. I would love the changes you just laid out. A 10 year old would hate this movie.

My 8 year old self loved that Han was a hero. I loved the Ewoks. And I loved the Luke and Leia were siblings, and she and Han were a couple.

    We adults have Empire.

Exactly! I felt exactly the same way when I saw the film at ten years old in 1983. It was my favorite Star Wars film for a number of years.

I actually think the original film was more adult than The Empire Strikes Back. Numerous deaths (including a beloved main character and innocent family members), blood, Han was a drug-dealing murderer in league with galactic gangsters, greater realism, Vader was more ruthless and not yet the sanitised father he became by ESB, and none of the main-characters were puppets. :D

Good point. Too many people call Star Wars a simple adventure movie, but it was quite dark.

For all of its fantasy and fairy-tale narrative, Star Wars also had a markedly gritty Western genre element/inspiration which was almost entirely dispensed with in all subsequent sequels, prequels, and spin-offs (not to mention scenes of political intrigue aboard the Tantive IV and the Death Star). The Empire Strikes Back was almost pure fantasy in its narrative and stylistic elements.

I always loved that "Sergio Leone in space" feel in the original.

Good points. But I have to disagree with Vader as the sanitized father in ESB. He kills everybody for little reason, with slow, painful deaths. He tortures Han just to draw Luke out, and freezes him in carbonite. Vader sells out Leia and Chewie to a bounty hunter, stabbing Lando in the back. He psychologically and physically tortures his own son to try and turn him evil.

If that were an actual trailer, the film looks incredibly boring.
