I've only seen the first two August Underground films.... the second one ("Mordum") is the only movie that has ever caused me to start sweating. The scene in question involved a pair of scissors. ('Nuff said).
The mean-spiritedness and 'snuff film voyuerism' of that film put me off. Nowadays, many people would probably complain more about the casual racism and general misogyny on display.
This was a 4 o'clock movie one afternoon when I was a kid (!). Needless to say, I've never forgotten it. I finally saw "The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane" a few years ago. Jodie Foster and Martin Sheen are brilliant. Very dark subject matter, and nearly all just suggested, which I think makes it more powerful.
Quick search failed to find this.... I just got Orson Wells' Touch of Evil the other day and it's unsettling to say the least. Orson plays a mean ole haggard ogre of a cop and he plays it to the hilt. Nasty ! Pretty darn disturbing.
I found the 2006 "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning" quite disturbing. I found it more disturbing than Hooper's original or the 2003 remake.
Mean-Spirited and Hateful film from beginning to end. I squirmed in my seat watching it at the theater.
Yes, I found the dialogue so mean spirited and hateful. That is a good way to put it. The world view of the film's creators was more disturbing to me than the images of violence.
The only thing disturbing about that film is the fact that such a stinking turd was even allowed to be made in the first place. Terrible, terrible movie.
Human Centipede II. Parts 1 and 3 are practically children's movies compared to the second one.... some pretty yucky stuff going on there.
Only thing about Charlton that 'looks' Mexican is his thin mustache. He has no accent nor anything else that seems Mexican. Gotta remember though....there are 'gringo' Mexicans. Even Vincent Price can look Latino...... But NOT Gene Shalit.... More like an Armenian. Touch of Evil is just one of those weird movies....Orson is sorta David Lynchlike. And in B&W it has that real film noir feeling. Orson doesn't even look like himself to me.
It Comes at Night. Oh, this is a bleak one. Rotten Tomatoes 89%, audience score 45%. I thought it was pretty good. It helps knowing absolutely nothing about the movie going in.
I do recall Breaking the Waves now that you mention it, and yes, it is definitely disturbing. Emily Watson's brilliant performance gave me the major creeps.
