Re: Kate Bush's masterpiece on CD, I only have the Japan mlps and the UK version from This Woman's Work boxset. The latter sounds better in terms of clarity and 'air' but only marginally so. Does anyone have earlier pressings of Hounds of Love on CD that sound superior?

The Black Triangle CD sounds better than the early EU CD that I used to own. But I'm not sure anymore if the latter was a UK, Dutch or WG disc. And it surely sounds better than the remaster with bonus tracks.

Is the black triangle with pre-emphasis?

Hard to top the original UK CD.

The 1997 remastering isn't all that bad. A tad louder but not an ear bleeder.

No it isn't, if I remember correctly.

Interesting you say that - I've got that and agree it sounds ok (though not a patch on my EMI100 vinyl), but it has a reputation as one of the worst remasters ever. What exactly is it that people hate so much about it?

The UK EMI pressing sounded superb. The dog ate mine a few years ago.

I could be wrong , but the original 1985 cd EMI version was re issued in 2011 on the Fishpeople/EMI label and is still available. It sounds soft and detailed, lush.
I've not heard the remastered CD version with the extra tracks so can't comment.

How is the 1985 EMI Manhattan made in USA disc sound? Is it the same as the 85 UK that is recommended?

As far as I know there are only 3 different masterings:

    1: The original Japan, EAC 96.5 82.3 91.7 68.1 95.8 48.5 57.0 98.5 77.5 100.0 88.8 100.
    2: The original Europe, EAC 100.0 90.5 100.0 83.7 100.0 61.3 71.0 100.0 93.1 100.0 100.0 100.0.
    3: The 1997 remaster, EAC 98.7 98.5 98.7 98.0 98.6 98.0 98.0 98.8 95.9 98.6 98.2 98.7 + six tracks.

The Fish People looks the same as mastering 2, except for track 3 'The Big Sky'. For some reason this has been substituted for the single version.

There is a small chance that an original German Sonopress version differs. Could someone please post the peak levels?

The USA EMI Manhattan contains the second mastering.

The original UK CD is cheap, easily available and sounds great to these ears.

    Phenomenal album

That mr. Rigsby doesn't seem very nice. Awkward blog, IMHO. Kate released some of the best music in pop history. I'm not sure why he is complaining that much.

Please refer to Discogs for a full listing of all the versions: Kate Bush - Hounds Of Love .

I think his last few paragraphs said more about himself than Kate.
I've been listening to her music from day one , it's like a soothing balm for the soul. :)

So I got to the first line of that where this guy says "An artist of unfulfilled genius, unrealised potential, incomplete as a legend" and I had to stop to burst out laughing.
    :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Couldn't be bothered to read the rest because it was obviously a pile of codswollop.

Bitter writer that for some unknown reason takes umbrage with an artist for being just that, an artist, not a performing monkey celebrity. Great artists could give me one great album every decade and disappear if they wanted to and I'd be grateful they were still making great music.

Weird. I would have assumed this was mastered "all analogue".

It looks like an unofficial CD of a needle drop. That's all.

    Realisation dawns, slowly.

When you reach a certain age (cough) conclusions for favourite Lps / cds can be arrived at with much more certainty and in the case of
Hounds of Love a realisation dawns that this is in fact an Album I now set firmly in my top 10 of all time (perhaps always was) = Oooh, comfort.

Just a thank you d.s.l for posting the link which glaringly showed I did also required another edition, being the 2005 TOCP-67819, which also appeared to be quite readily attainable with care (bonus).

I have a Japan for UK which matches the UK EMI as far as remembered so the 2005 edition is a perfect edition without worrying too much about the BT release.
