In typical "rehashing" fashion, they can also include the extra material that was featured in the Immersion boxes from 2011-12:

    • Alan Parsons' early mix of Dark Side from '72
    • Brighton Dome '72 tracks
    • "The Hard Way" and "Wine Glasses" from Household Objects
    • Dark Side, Shine On, Raving and Drooling, Gotta Be Crazy from Wembley '74 (maybe with the inclusion of Echoes for the sake of completing the show)
    • Alternate versions from the WYWH sessions
    • Roger and band Wall demos
It may be irritable for all of this stuff to re-appear but it can also be Sony's way of releasing that material considering EMI is now defunct and Sony/Pink Floyd Records have rejiggered the Discovery editions, only makes sense to cover all bases.

Yeah I always assumed that the Early Years was a supplement to the individual later Deluxe edition albums (DSOTM,WYWH, The Wall) and that there wouldn't be a "Later Years" set coming out as most of it was already done.

Younger fans? I don't think so. I think that most of the people who embraced Gilmour's version of the band were longtime, established fans of the band who wanted more of the same. Meanwhile, I've encountered some younger fans who actually embrace the older, weirder Floyd and even the original Syd stuff maintains a certain hipster cache.

Don't forget there're STUDIO versions of those Animals tracks

It's not necessary to repeat the live versions included on WYWH Immersion box

I think Fictitious Sports is great, but I fully understand Floyd fans hating the album. It's something else. Really a Carla Bley album. It has her songs in a jazzy vein with clever, humorous lyrics. Mason drums and co-produces, that's it. His name is on the cover to attract more buyers. Profiles from '85 is more Floyd-like and has Gilmour singing on one track.

Including only 'Happiest Days' on Immersion was a strange move, to put it politely.

All I need now, is a professionally recorded date from the Animals tour,

Not going to happen, I know.

I'd gladly trade the existence of Is There Anybody Out There? for it.

There's even another BBC documentary, from 2005 or later, called Which One's Pink? that could fit to a set like this.
And all those press kits from The Devision Bell, Pulse and The Endless River...

I have the Japanese version of Wet Dream on vinyl. I've always really liked that record. And you're absolutely right that it sit perfectly with Dave's S/T lp. There's a certain atmosphere to both that I love. Wish Rick was still around. In a lot of ways he's my favorite member of the band.

From the top of my head:

    - The Wall movie (1982)
    - La Carrera Panamericana (1992)
    - Rehearsals for TDB (1993)
    - Live8 (2005)

  19. I for one, can't imagine there being any sort of large "Later Years" type release that would combine pre-1987 and post-1987 material. Legally, Dave's Floyd is an entirely different legal entity (literally), known as "Pink Floyd (1987) Limited".

Yes, I know there have been a tiny handful of time when tracks from Floyd w/ Roger have appeared alongside Floyd sans Roger -- the Echoes 2-disc comp (for one), and A Foot in the Door being the only other one I can think of.

That said, pre-1987 and post-1987 Floyd are like two entirely different species. Whether one thinks there's any possibility of a "Later Years" box focusing on the rest of the 70's, up through about 1983... Or an even LATER "Later Years" box for Dave's Floyd from 1987 on... ...the notion of the band intermixing the two seems impossible to imagine.

I'm not even trying to get into the argument as to whether one considers Floyd 2.0 legitimately Floyd or not -- they're just legally, entirely different entities.

The 'Shine On' boxset as well. While it was just some albums combined, the packaging was pretty elaborate so what was in there definitely went through more of a process than just some random selection. How that process included the Early Singles as a bonus and excluded Piper altogether is quite a headscratcher. Actually, I'd actually say that all of the compilations that have come out since MLoR have treated the band like one single entity.

  21. I forgot about the 'Shine On' box. That said, I still can't imagine a unified rarities set that would combine pre- and post- 1987 material.

Well, if I'm reading the zeitgeist correctly, the obvious answer is the "Spitting Roger Hologram Extravaganza Tour."
