And another pop song that is near perfect in every way. From the simplicity that says everything to the way the strings release after each chorus. Just a perfectly crafted pop single, and another one of those songs that makes one glad to be alive! Or in love... :)

Can't believe I'm the first one to mention "Good Vibrations", Beach Boys not Marky Mark :).

A favorite from the 80's that is very characteristic of the decade. And very "perfect". Written by Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, who know a few things about writing perfect pop songs... :)

    And this one...

Maybe the most perfect Motown single. At least it sure is a definitive one! Pure exuberance!

It's got to be up there as one of the greatest "rock and roll songs/singles" no doubt! I was initially stunned to learn that it was never even issued as a (US) single.

And one of the most perfect pop duets to ever hit the charts, in my humble opinion...

Suddenly - Cliff Richard & Olivia Newton John (1980)

Ahh...the number of times I fawned over Olivia to this song in the early 80's... :)

Yeah, that one works too. But we might have to bump the thread up to an R rating...

And we can't forget Sheena's blockbuster contribution to Prince's "U Got The Look"! :)

I don't think this one ever actually got on the radio but it should have. The label really blew it on this album. It's full of great catchy songs but the one and only single doesn't reflect that at all. The worst song the could have picked.

    Anyway..

Easy - "Heaven Tonight" by Hole. By virtue of the fact that this is a Courtney Love song, many people probably won't even give it a chance but I implore any fan of pop hooks and jangly guitars to give it a listen (ignore that it's a fan video comprised of elements from other Hole videos). The song was part of the Celebrity Skin album in 1998 and 19 years later, I still find this to be pop/rock at its finest.
