Well Frankenstein has it's own thread: The Frankenstein thread so it's about time that Dracula and other vampires had a place to be celebrated!
The movie has many shortcomings, but I have always had a soft spot (...so to speak) for the 1979 version starring Frank Langella in the title role. I think his Dracula is the perfect embodiment of supernatural weirdness (the lateral twitch that seems to animate constantly the eyes of the comedian when seen in close-ups) and aristocratic elegance and sex appeal. Plus that scene down in the crypt with the female vampire is super creepy! ("Papa, come to me, Papa" Brrrr!...) Plus the climax, the final scene is quite spectacular and, in the end, poetic, with the lonely bat-like cloth riding in the wind, in broad daylight. According to some experts, the original print had all sorts of subtle hues, which got lost in the VHS/DVD transfer.
Renfield -- the Count's spider-eating 'servant' played by the great Dwight Frye. "Huh hnnn hnnn hnnn..." "Why he's mad! Look at his eyes. Why the man’s gone crazy.”
Watched all the Dracula films with my little daughters from Nosferatu to all the Hammer, fun times,i have a soft spot for Langella's too,it was the first i saw as a kid.
I love vampires, from the immortal[Bela Legosi-to Brad Pitt an Tom Cruise]my main man[Chistopher Lee]was scary as hell too.
Horror of Dracula is traditionally played at our house on Halloween. Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee! Love the look and 'feel' of the movie.
Gary Oldman from Bram Stoker’s Dracula. My personal favorite. Young Drac, Old Drac, Wolf Drac, Bat Drac. Gary Oldman probably had more Dracula make-ups than three normal actors (and really Old Drac’s “Double-D Cup Wig” has its own cult following).
I'd always taken a pass on that Dracula due to Langella. How unsuitable he must be. Well, I watched it last year and thought it was pretty good. There's a nice contrast between the expected class and unexpected graphic violence. You took the words right outta my mouth. I remember it. It was a TV movie. Speaking of which I also remember being absolutely terrified as a kid watching Kolchak: The Night Stalker. Wow, the bedroom, closet scene in particular had me petrified. I watch it about once a year.
Good contemporary vampire film....The Addiction. Directed by Abel Ferrara. Shadow of the vampire was good fun as well. A fictionalized account of the making of Nosferatu.
