That's an A-Side - a severely edited 'Hallelewah' from Tago Mago was the B-Side Plus its hardly Can's first or only stab at pop. Nearly every album had at least one. They even had a major hit single in Germany with 'Spoon' (the royalties they earned from it allowed them them to invest in better recording facilities/equipment) and they also had a decent sized UK hit single a few years later with 'I Want More'. Plus there's other "pop" singles they released that should have been substantial hits (if there was any justice in the world) such as 'Vitamin C' and 'Moonshake' to name just two....
That wasn't a B-Side. It was an A-Side - three times: Original version - Sept 72 Sax version - April 73 "Again" version Released 1979 - Recorded in 1974 One of the first two A-Side versions was re-used as the B-Side of the "Again" version in 1979, but I hardly think that negates the fact that that version was previously released as an A-Side in its own right.
Manic Street Preachers......pretty much every b-side from "Everything Must Go", "This is my Truth", "Know your Enemy", "Lifeblood", "Send away the tigers", and "Postcards". Most of these have a full albums worth of b-sides that were just as good if not better than the actual albums. Radiohead.....B-sides from the first two albums were incredible. XTC - "Jump", "Toys", "Tissue Tigers", "Punch & Judy"....aw hell, pretty much all of them Blur - the early albums in particular had some great b-sides Elbow - "Dead in the Boot" b-side collection is really good Neil Finn - "Underestimated" Finn Brothers - "Sunset Swim", "The Land Torments the Sea" Living Colour - "17 Days", "Nothingness" (acoustic)
Bunch of British bands in the '90s had TONS of great B-sides, sometimes better than many album-tracks. The two bands that have the most amount of great B-sides I think are Manic Street Preachers and Ocean Colour Scene. Both bands have enough B-sides to make at least 5 separate albums, albums that would be as good, if not better than a lot of the albums they've put out.
Indeed for the A-side, my bad, but well it's one of their most "upbeat" early songs, very different from the Tago Mago mood. I mean, it got reused in a Playstation 1 game for children.

Just checked, I have the live "Sebastian" on the SH &CR compo "The Best Years of Our Lives", it was the B side of Mr Raffles, the single was edited, album version is 10 min.45 sec..
Elton John's ode to Cher, "Snow Queen" (B-side of Don't Go Breaking My Heart), still not on any official Elton CD.

Instead of just listing off insanely high-quality Pet Shop Boys b-side after insanely high-quality Pet Shop Boys b-side, the one I played the most today was "On The Wheel" by Curve. A great band that took one of their best songs and tucked it away on a promotional single.

Thanks to you, this thread has cost me like 32 bucks so far: "Ooooooo, great Mac song. I wonder if I could pick up a copy of . . . [googling] . . . wait, there's a two-disc Edsel reissue of Mysterio? Must have. OK, if Edsel reissued Mysterio, then they surely reissued Candleland as well . . . [googling]. . . ." Sigh.
Blackerthreetracker could be looked at as an EP, since it doesn't list a title song, agreed, excellent song It was featured on the Doom Generation soundtrack as well
Ribbons and Chains/Birdy are fantastic I've been known to suffer the same fate because of this forum A few months ago a member posted a vid to an extended mix of a tune found only on a promo single. Of course I had to track it down
Oh wow, I can't believe I haven't heard his marvelous cover of "The Circle Game" until now [sniffle].
