Love many of these. I may have missed it, but I didn't see this one listed. Would have to be one of the all-time best:
I love B-sides. They're little hidden gems that get left on the cutting room floor, and there are many artists who have done a very good job with their B-sides. Beatles, Slade, The Police, The Cure, Genesis, all had B-sides that are as good as songs on their albums. Prince also had a slew of great B-sides. My favorite, and often considered one of the best B-sides of all time, is Erotic City. Of course, you can't forget Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam. It's so famous many people don't know it was originally just a B-side to a single! Talk Talk also had a lot of good ones and I like their B-sides comp. Same with Louder Than Bombs by The Smiths. An album of non-album tracks that could be their greatest hits album. I also like the B-sides from Peter Gabriel's 'So' singles (Don't Break This Rhythm, Curtains), and Hendrix's Stone Free. Man, there are a ton of great ones! It's a shame that some get ignored because they weren't on albums.

My favorite B-side is the first one I purchased. My first 45 single: The Beatles "Help", which still ranks as my favorite song of all time. The B-side "I'm Down" appears to be a throwaway song (arguably the reason B-sides exist), but thanks a fantastic vocal performance from Paul, it becomes yet another solid song in the band's catalog of amazing songs. Plus, the concept of "Help"/"I'm Down" tales of woe fit together well to create a unified theme. And John's original rocker on one side, Paul's Little Richard-esque on the other, this single is a perfect example of the Beatles at their best IMO.
