Morning's Calling-Peter & Gordon (Lady Godiva) Observation From Flight 285-Paul Revere & The Raiders (Dont Take It So Hard) Lover's Cross-Jim Croce (You Don't Mess Around With Jim) and tons and tons more
Love many of these. I may have missed it, but I didn't see this one listed. Would have to be one of the all-time best:
I love B-sides. They're little hidden gems that get left on the cutting room floor, and there are many artists who have done a very good job with their B-sides. Beatles, Slade, The Police, The Cure, Genesis, all had B-sides that are as good as songs on their albums. Prince also had a slew of great B-sides. My favorite, and often considered one of the best B-sides of all time, is Erotic City. Of course, you can't forget Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam. It's so famous many people don't know it was originally just a B-side to a single! Talk Talk also had a lot of good ones and I like their B-sides comp. Same with Louder Than Bombs by The Smiths. An album of non-album tracks that could be their greatest hits album. I also like the B-sides from Peter Gabriel's 'So' singles (Don't Break This Rhythm, Curtains), and Hendrix's Stone Free. Man, there are a ton of great ones! It's a shame that some get ignored because they weren't on albums.
"Crazy World" by ABBA (B-Side of "Money, Money, Money") "Love Me For What I Am" by the Carpenters (B-Side of "Solitaire")
Asia - Daylight, Lying To Yourself Marillion - Tux on, Freaks, Cinderella Search, The Release, The Bell In The Sea, Say The Word, Circular Ride, How Can It Hurt... (I could go on ) Iron Maiden - King Of Twilight, Rainbow's Gold, The Sheriff of Huddersfield... ABWH - Vultures In The City Queen - I Go Crazy, Soul Brother ELO - The Bouncer, When Time Stood Still, Destination Unknown, Buildings Have Eyes, Time After Time, After All... Jeff Lynne - Sirens, Sooner Or Later Genesis - Vancouver, Evidence Of Autumn, Twilight Alehouse... Radiohead - All of them.
In their early career Marillion frequently had b-sides that outshone the singles. Particular favourites of mine include: Grendel 3 Boats Down From The Candy Cinderella Search Charting The Single A collection I will walk on water
Motorhead - Over the Top. Was in thier live set for ever and one can only wonder why it didn't make the Bomber album. Mick Jagger - Blue (Visions of Paradise) The Rolling Stones - Fancyman Blues (Mixed Emotions)
"Sledgehammer", the b-side (in the UK at least) on Bachman Turner Overdrive's "Roll On Down The Highway".
She's Always in My Hair - Prince Soul Brother - Queen (You're so) Physical - Adam & the Ants Own Up, Take a Look at Yourself - Sweet
My favorite B-side is the first one I purchased. My first 45 single: The Beatles "Help", which still ranks as my favorite song of all time. The B-side "I'm Down" appears to be a throwaway song (arguably the reason B-sides exist), but thanks a fantastic vocal performance from Paul, it becomes yet another solid song in the band's catalog of amazing songs. Plus, the concept of "Help"/"I'm Down" tales of woe fit together well to create a unified theme. And John's original rocker on one side, Paul's Little Richard-esque on the other, this single is a perfect example of the Beatles at their best IMO.
