Inspired by the recent thread on the best opening and following track on a Beatles' album and by happening to be listening to one of the near-flawless debut albums, Mr. Tambourine Man by The Byrds, with its great "1-2 Punch" of "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "I'll Feel A Whole Lot Better", I wonder what other forum members would consider great "1-2 punches" on debut albums.

This is a little subjective but for me it is impossible to beat Crossing The Red Sea with The Adverts and the 1-2 of One Chord Wonders and Bored Teenagers.

The trumpet-fueled band Chase (of "Get It On" fame) starts their s/t-titled debut off with four trumpet "shouts" from different directions, they start to play and the mix closes them up tighter as they play the figure together, then the rest of the band comes it (awsome in Quad, natch); this is "Open Up Wide", a screamin' instrumental. Often they would open their shows with it, placing the horns in separate corners of the venue, and run towards the middle (still playing in sync; imagine running with a trumpet mouthbpiece plastered to your lips - these dudes were loaded for bear)!

Next track is "Livin' In Heat", about a boy who didn't understand why his mom was the way she was...apparently he figured it out by the chorus.

Just a pair of arena-shaking charts!

It's hard to think of anything better than...

    Good Times, Bad Times
    Babe I'm Gonna Leave You

    Led Zeppelin (Led Zeppelin) 1969

On a purely personal level, I'm also partial to "Strutter" and "Nothin To Lose" on the debut album from Kiss. But I can't imagine that being too popular a choice with many others.

Van Halen's debut. Runnin' With The Devil followed by Eruption.
