What are the quintessential SACD's that one must have in their catalog? I've begun to collect some. So far I have:

Billy Joel's Greatest Hits Vol 1 and 2
    Layla and Assorted Love Songs
    John Coltrane Lush Life
    The Best of Marvin Gaye

Any other suggestions for rock, pop, soul, or Jazz?

The AP Blue Note SACDs that I've heard are very, very good.

I personally find the Universal Elton John SACDs and Edgar Winter MFSL SACD to be way too bright, YMMV. For Bob Dylan SACDs get the MFSL over the Sony's and for A Love Supreme get the AP SACD over the Universal.

The Carpenters - Singles 1969-1981 is pretty freaking awesome. Quintessential, even.

Are any of the ones mentioned in 5.1 like the Billy Joel one is?

Our host’s SACDs for Analogue Productions of seven classic Nat “King” Cole albums. And one other Nat SACD he did for Audio Fidelity. The AP releases are some of the best recordings I’ve ever heard.

The Elton John are 5.1 as are several of the Song Dylan titles. There are also 5.1 Joel discs for The Stranger and 52nd Street.
I believe the only 5.1 Stones is the Sympathy For the Devil single

IMO the SHM-SACD of "Exile On Main St." is the best version available. Ditto for "Who's Next".

It's the same as the DVD audio disc, and sounds really nice (like Fleetwood Mac's Rumours and Donald Fagan's The Nightfly) and were only released by Warners Japan

Which version of these do you have on SACD because some of the titles that you list have different SACD versions, and some are better than others.

How do you have your system set-up? Maybe you are not listening to the SACD layer or maybe you are converting the DSD to PCM and processing the audio.

    There are so many options.
