I saw the news of Pete's passing this morning and was sad to see it. Unfortunately, his age is the similar ratio of artists and musicians that we lost last year. So, it continues, RIP Overend, I'm gonna play "Born Late '58" a little but later in memory.

Which songs that highlight Overend's playing should I play on my radio show tomorrow?

Aside from the obligatory 'Born Late '58', I'd go with 'Alice' from the same album... some tasty lines on that one.

There's also just about any track from the expanded 'Mott Live'... take your pick.

For earlier pre-glam bottom end, 'Half Moon Bay', 'Thunderbuck Ram', and 'The Moon Upstairs'.

I saw Ian Hunter (and the Rant Band) at City Winery New York tonight. It happened to be his 1st concert after Overend Watts' passing.

The concert started with an Overend tribute. First a slideshow, then James Mastro (The Bongos, Rant Band) read a bunch of e-mail exchanges with Overend involving a Q&A interview for liner notes James Mastro wrote for a Mott The Hoople compilation CD. Finally, this Monks video was played on the screen. They were one of his favorite groups (I love them too).

Then "Ballad of Mott the Hoople" was the 1st encore and was dedicated to him.

You have to love his sense of humor. Morgan Fisher posted these on his Facebook page. Apparently, he had someone send cards to his friends after he passed away. Classic!

Both Mott albums were crackers. I still play them to this day, especially 'Shouting And Pointing'.

This came in the mail yesterday and I got around to listening today. Coming up on the 1st anniversary of his death. To have your one and only solo album be released after your death. :( The pictures inside the booklet hit it home for me. I really enjoyed the music, goes off in different directions. Some a bit wacky but I like wacky. Nice to see he remained creative up till the end. R.I.P. Overend.
