Weird timing- I put on an infrequent listen to Glitter & Doom, and checked Discogs to see how much my vinyl edition of Orphans is going for on Discogs…a minute or two later, I get the email below. I’d better sell up now…

Listings for the reissues, including a new remix of Real Gone (‘Newly remixed by Karl Derfler and remastered with Waits/Brennan’) here:

The Official Tom Waits Online Store :: powered by Kings Road Merch

(Orphans is ‘coming in 2018’ apparently)

ORPHANS!!!!!! The day I clicked "cancel order" on that one was one of the darkest days of my life. Glad to see it's getting a repressing.

Strange that they are putting so much effort into remastering these recent albums and still Bone Machine sits there untouched.

I was also surprised as got the email.
Definitely looking forward to these and glad to get ”Orphans” finally on vinyl.
And it was about time that it’s finally getting the deserved repressing.

Orphans is listed in the email as digital/streaming in 2018, not vinyl.

Interested in this Real Gone remix. I'm not sure why it needs one, really.

Wonder if they'll give the vinyl only tracks a digital release?

  7. Do any of these need remastering/mixing?

Bone Machine and that era is owned by Universal. The Asylum era is owned by WEA. Tom only has control over the late era stuff.

I have the Orphans vinyl boxset. I've considered selling it a few times, but it's still in my collection. I love that release. So many amazing songs.

Are the previously vinyl-only Orphans bonus tracks going to become more widely available? Doesn't seem like it on first glance. Right?

    Actually the email says:

Also Available For Digital Downloads & Streaming.
    Orphans Available 2018.

My understanding from that is that the albums listed above those lines are available for download and streaming. Period. AND Orphans will be available in 2018. I agree it's not totally clear, but I'm clinging to that period after streaming to mean Orphans will be repressed.

Interesting that Mule Variations, Blood Money, and Real Gone are in stock and available to purchase for $5 less than the pre-orders for their 180g remastered counterparts. I'll be very interested to how these remasters compare to the original masters.

Particularly since Mule Variations sounds amazing on vinyl already.

Reissues? Where's a new album? Bad As Me is six years old.

And not even his most recent album.

Add to this that remastering Glitter and Doom Live kind of makes me laugh as those recordings sound pretty bad. Waits just can't release a solid live album (other than Nighthawks, though it wasn't exactly live).

Uh, no. I was weirdly thinking you were referring to Real Gone (you didn't say that, I know). Sorry!

"Bad as Me" has been remastered already?

When a Tom Waits email arrives I'm hoping its either (a) proper UK dates (b) Island albums reissued or (c) a pickup-where-they-left-off Rhino-Warners re-issue campaign.

I already have all of these and they sounded fine to me already.

I wish Tom and Anti would buy up the rights to the Island era albums, as they are clearly not doing anything with them (ditto PJ Harvey)

I'll pick up "Real Gone" again, as its completely remixed, just to be a total completest about it. Although a completest without a copy of The Black Rider.

I hold out hope for a Bone Machine multi-vinyl set with a remastering, a live show and perhaps some demos/unreleased stuff. Would make for a magnificent set.

I can't see that happening, I sense (like Prince) Tom has never really looked back. All those live performances and concert films will have to wait for another day. Unless the pension fund gets tight of course. Remember that there is no money in music anymore, unless you tour.

That's how I also saw and read. Definitely got the feeling that it would be repressing.
